What You’ll Do


Essential duties & responsibilities:


The Directors Guild of America has an immediate opening for a Director of Media Relations. This position is responsible for the oversight of the Guild’s external communications/press relations in support of the DGA’s mission to protect and extend the creative and economic rights of directors and their teams. Please note, this position is onsite at the Los Angeles Headquarters.


Additional duties include:


• Work with Guild executives to set the external communications vision for the organization, ensure consistent messaging and voice; collaborate closely with other departments on communications-related issues.

• Responsible for strategizing and implementing all media relations activities – press releases, media lists, media pitching, routine media inquiries, news photography and other event logistics. • Primary Guild spokesperson on day-to-day communications issues, DGA Awards and other significant Guild events and activities.

• Monitors and reports daily on breaking news.

• Writes key communications materials, press releases, statements, remarks and letters.

• Develops specific strategic campaigns that enhance the DGA brand.

• Works closely with Communications and Executive staff on the public aspects of Guild communications to members, including social media and DGA website posts.

• Perform other such duties as may be assigned by the Associate Executive Director and National Executive Director.


What You’ll Need


• Superior written and oral communications skills.

• Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic communications and media relations plans.

• Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top tier reporters and editors, and in positioning subject matter with media to achieve high-impact placements.

• Fluency in Word, Excel, X, Facebook and Instagram.

• Appreciation and understanding of Labor Unions.


Minimum qualifications:


• Bachelor's Degree in communications, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

• Minimum 5+ years of communications or public relations experience.

• Knowledge or work-related experience of labor movement or unions.
