Adjunct Faculty - Film Production

Job Description

HIRING COLLEGE INSTRUCTOR - FILM PRODUCTION COURSE

Seattle Film Institute is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach the gateway Intro to Production class in our Filmmaking program, starting next Fall Quarter.

The class teaches hands-on skills and techniques covering all aspects of production to establish a base level of competency. Students may start with zero production experience. Aspects covered should include camera and audio equipment, visual storytelling, pre-production and on-set practices. Project work will synergize with separate Screenwriting and Post-Production classes.

The class runs 10 weeks in Fall Quarter (late September - December, 2026) and again in the Spring Quarter (late March - June, 2027).

Applicants must have professional experience in some form of production - whether cinematic, broadcast, commercial, etc. - and a Master’s degree (preferably in a related field). A good ‘generalist’ toolset with strong hands-on skills is the best fit for this course. Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.

While an adjunct appointment this is an anchor faculty position, with the opportunity to teach multiple sections, multiple times per academic year, and additional course opportunities available to the right Instructor. We hope to start meeting candidates soon so that finalists have the chance to shadow our current Intro to Production teacher this coming Spring.

COMPENSATION:

Current rates are based on a 10-week quarter and begin at $500.00 per credit. A standard five-credit class (approximately 40 contact hours per quarter) is $2,500.00. Typical course size is from 12-15 students.

Seattle Film Institute is committed to the diversity of our faculty and staff. We are equal opportunity and affirmative action employers. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, marital status, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, veteran status, and family medical or genetic information.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested candidates may apply by submitting the following items:

  • Cover Letter that addresses your interest in the position and ability to perform the responsibilities described in this announcement with specific attention to your philosophy of teaching.
  • Detailed résumé or CV of all educational and professional experience that demonstrates how you meet the qualifications.

Candidates we're considering will be asked to provide a Reel or sample production work. You do not need to include this with your initial application.
