Maps Music is a full-service music creative agency based in Portland, Oregon, specializing in licensing, supervision, original music, and sonic branding. The company represents a large library of rare vintage and genre-bending contemporary artists whose work appears in ads, TV, and film for clients such as Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Nissan, HBO, Hulu, Netflix, CBS, and NBC. Artist-first and artist-run, Maps Music offers payouts significantly higher than industry norms and supports artists’ autonomy by maintaining complete creative control over their music. The team also operates Good Space, a community hub for events, co-working, and gatherings that serves as the physical home for Maps Music, fostering a collaborative atmosphere between artists, clients, and the community.
Role Description
Join our Portland team as our new Business Affairs + Operations Assistant (part-time or full-time depending on experience).
The Business Affairs + Operations Assistant supports day-to-day business operations, including organizing contracts and documents, maintaining accurate financial records, and coordinating cash flow in and out. They will pay vendors, manage payroll, reconcile bank statements, track invoices in QuickBooks, ensure contracts are fulfilled, manage purchase orders and statements of work, and perform basic data entry. The role requires attention to detail, comfort with administrative tasks, and a strong interest in the music and entertainment industry.
This position requires someone organized, detail-oriented, proficient in Excel, and a “self-starter” who is not afraid to ask questions but is comfortable taking the lead. Qualifications
- Finance, treasury, and/or business experience preferred
- Strong operations and operations management skills, with the ability to support daily workflows and organize processes effectively
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency with productivity and collaboration tools (e.g., spreadsheets, email, and calendar platforms)
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Interest or experience in music, entertainment, or creative industries
- Relevant education or equivalent professional experience in operations, business administration, or a related field
Compensation:
Depending on experience, the position can be part-time or full-time at a base hourly rate of $27/hr, flexible based on experience and weekly hours.
Hybrid Office:
Qualified candidates must be able to work from our Portland, OR office 3 days a week and remotely 2 days a week. A personal device is required, as we do not provide staff-issued laptops.
The Bottom Line:
Finance, treasury, and/or business experience is preferred; proficiency with spreadsheets and numbers is required. We’re looking for candidates who are self-driven, organized, computer-savvy, and a good hang.
Start Date:
August 31 is preferred, but flexible.
