Job Description
About Pocket FM
Pocket FM is the world's largest audio-series platform, where powerful stories travel effortlessly across languages, cultures, and continents. From India and the US to Europe and beyond, we're redefining how stories are created, discovered, and experienced across the globe.
With one of the largest creator ecosystems in entertainment, Pocket FM is home to millions of listeners and an ever-growing catalog of original serialized content. We're building the future of storytelling by bringing together exceptional writers, creators, and creative leaders to develop stories audiences can't stop listening to.
About the Role
Pocket FM is seeking a Slate Director to join our US Creative Development team and oversee the adaptation, development, and launch of original serialized content. This role is ideal for someone with a strong writing background who is passionate about story development and excited by the opportunity to help shape a growing slate of premium audio series.
As a Slate Director, you'll manage multiple projects simultaneously, partnering closely with writers, producers, marketing, and production teams to bring stories from concept through launch. You'll provide creative feedback, guide writers throughout the development process, and ensure every project delivers a compelling audience experience while staying on schedule.
This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging creative executive looking to take ownership of projects in a fast-paced, rapidly growing entertainment company.
Responsibilities
- Lead the creative development and adaptation of serialized stories into premium long-form audio series.
- Personally write, adapt, and refine audio drama scripts, outlines, and story materials when projects require hands-on creative development.
- Manage multiple shows simultaneously from development through launch, ensuring projects remain on schedule and aligned with creative goals.
- Partner directly with writers, providing detailed editorial feedback on outlines, scripts, revisions, and overall story direction while stepping in as a writer when needed to move projects forward.
- Build strong working relationships with internal and external writers, helping them deliver the strongest possible version of each project.
- Develop adaptation strategies that translate source material into compelling serialized audio experiences while preserving the core appeal of each story.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Marketing, Product, Growth, and Licensing teams throughout the lifecycle of each show.
- Monitor production timelines, identify potential risks, and proactively keep projects moving forward.
- Analyze audience performance and feedback to help inform future creative decisions and improve upcoming releases.
- Support launch planning by working with internal stakeholders to ensure each series is positioned for success.
- Stay informed on emerging storytelling trends across web fiction, microdrama, digital publishing, gaming, streaming, and serialized entertainment.
- Contribute to future slate planning by identifying compelling genres, concepts, and intellectual property that align with Pocket FM's audience.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in creative development, editorial, publishing, entertainment, digital media, or a related storytelling environment.
- Professional writing experience is required. You are a strong hands-on writer with the ability to write, adapt, and revise serialized stories and scripts yourself—not just oversee the work of others.
- Experience writing web novels, serialized fiction, screenplays, narrative content, or audio drama is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with serialized storytelling, particularly web novels, is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the rapidly growing microdrama ecosystem and enthusiasm for learning the space.
- Experience managing creative projects and working directly with writers through multiple rounds of development.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent editorial instincts with a deep understanding of story structure, pacing, character development, dialogue, and serialized storytelling.
- Passion for fiction across multiple formats, including web novels, audio storytelling, digital publishing, and serialized entertainment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to provide clear, constructive creative feedback.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with creative, production, marketing, and business teams.
- Experience with interactive narrative, visual novels, choice-based games, or narrative game development is a plus.
- Experience in television, film, or streaming development is a plus.
- Passion for discovering, developing, and championing stories that resonate with large audiences.
