Studio B Head of Production

Studio BLondon, United KingdomPosted

Job Description

Reports to: SVP, Head of Creative Studio

Team: 20-25 direct and indirect reports

Type: Full-time, permanent

Location: London North Studios.

The Opportunity

Studio B is building the future of entertainment-led marketing.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for an exceptional Head of Production to lead one of the most important functions in our business. You'll lead physical production while providing executive oversight across our post-production, VFX, and in-house studio operations, creating the overarching systems, processes, and leadership that enable world-class work to be delivered at scale.

This is a rare opportunity to shape how an ambitious, fast-growing creative studio operates, partnering with some of the world's biggest brands while helping build the foundations for our own original IP and long-form content.

Your Mission

Own and lead a production function that delivers exceptional work without compromising creativity, quality, or commercial performance.

You'll create an environment where brilliant people can do their best work, ensuring every project—from high-velocity social shoots to complex, VFX-heavy campaigns—is delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standard as Studio B scales.

Where You'll Make an Impact

Production Leadership

  • Lead Studio B's end-to-end production function from greenlight through delivery.
  • Lead production kick-offs, project reviews and wrap meetings.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex production challenges, clients and talent.
  • Continuously improve workflows, systems, and ways of working across physical production, post, and VFX streams.

Commercial Performance

  • Be accountable for the commercial performance of productions - budgets, forecasts, margins and delivery - protecting margin without compromising creative ambition, and escalating risks early.
  • Review live-action, post-production, and VFX budgets to approve commercial decisions across the slate.
  • Work closely with our CFO, Production Accountant, and Post Production Manager on financial due diligence, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting across every project.

Resource Planning

  • Lead production capacity planning across the business, ensuring every project is properly resourced.
  • Forecast hiring and freelance requirements; build a deep freelance, crew, VFX specialist, and supplier network to flex around the slate.
  • Balance utilisation, workload and business priorities as Studio B grows.

Post-Production & Visual Effects (VFX) Oversight

  • Partner with and lead our existing Post Production Manager to strategically manage the in-house post and VFX pipelines (edit, grade, sound, motion design, 2D/3D VFX, finishing).
  • Ensure the post and VFX pipelines have the technical infrastructure, staffing, and workflows needed for high-volume and high-craft deliverables across broadcast, social, and digital platforms.
  • Work alongside the Post Production Manager and VFX leads/supervisors to properly scope, bid, and track complex visual effects shots and post-heavy schedules.
  • Maintain senior-level relationships with trusted external post houses and specialized VFX vendors for overflow or specialist requirements.

Digital & Social Production

  • Oversee high-velocity production pipelines for social and YouTube alongside traditional stage and broadcast workflows—managing different cost models, speeds, and crew shapes operating in parallel.
  • Support native post/VFX workflows tailored for volume and rapid iteration rather than single hero deliverables.
  • Support creator-led shoots where talent operates as the production unit, wrapping lightweight production around them.

Studio & Sound Stage Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of our working studio and sound stage: scheduling, crewing, kit, maintenance and utilisation.
  • Own health & safety compliance, insurance and risk assessment across all studio operations.
  • Maximise commercial utilisation of the stage - internal productions, client shoots and third-party hire.
  • Manage facility budgets, capital expenditure planning and supplier relationships.

Business Affairs, Compliance & Systems

  • Own production business affairs: talent agreements, music licensing, usage rights, VFX asset licensing, and clearances—protecting margin and managing liability.
  • Ensure production insurance, E&O, child performance licensing, and location/drone permitting are compliant.
  • Ensure GDPR and data compliance on shoots and secure handling of client assets, raw footage, and proprietary VFX media.
  • Own the overarching production tech stack: management tooling, media asset management (MAM), cloud rendering/VFX infrastructure, and archive strategy in partnership with post leadership.

Leadership & Team Development

You'll lead and develop Studio B's production leadership team, creating an environment where people can do the best work of their careers. This includes:

  • Managing and coaching a team of 7 including Production Managers, Post Production Managers and Producers.
  • Developing future leaders and supporting career development and succession planning.
  • Setting clear objectives and expectations, with regular 1:1s and performance conversations.
  • Building a collaborative culture of craft, accountability and calm delivery.
  • Championing diverse and inclusive crewing practices, including tracking and reporting crew diversity where clients require it.

Cross-Functional Leadership

You'll work closely with Creative, Client Services, newly hired Production Accountant and CFO, People & Culture, and the Leadership & Executive Team to keep productions commercially successful and creatively strong.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 3 months you will:

  • Establish clear budget visibility, forecasting, and margin tracking across all live-action, post, and VFX work.
  • Build a seamless working rhythm with the Post Production Manager, establishing clear boundaries between operational post-management and executive strategic oversight.
  • Optimise parallel production models: high-craft stage, broadcast, and VFX-driven work running alongside high-velocity social pipelines.
  • Deliver projects consistently on time, on budget, and to standard, with margin performance actively improving.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who combines deep production expertise with commercial sharpness and inspiring leadership.

Essential:

  • Significant senior production leadership experience within a creative studio, film/TV studio, or major production company—running production at scale.
  • Experience maintaining executive oversight of post-production and VFX functions, working effectively with dedicated Post Production Managers and VFX Leads.
  • Deep understanding of visual effects workflows, pipeline requirements, VFX bidding/costing, and how post-heavy projects integrate into broader production schedules.
  • Digital production fluency: experience running high-volume social/digital production alongside high-craft stage, broadcast, or VFX-heavy work.
  • Hands-on experience managing a physical studio facility or sound stage, including crewing, scheduling, and H&S.
  • Track record of leading and developing multidisciplinary teams of 20+ (live-action, post, VFX, stage ops).
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen: budgeting, margin protection, vendor negotiations, and slate resource management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to make decisive calls at pace.

Desirable:

  • Experience across both brand-funded and original/IP-led content.
  • Direct experience of creator-led production models where talent is the production unit.
  • Albert certification / sustainable production accreditation.

The Kind of Leader You Are

  • Calm under pressure, decisive and obsessive about delivery.
  • Commercially minded without losing sight of craft.
  • Highly organised and naturally collaborative.
  • Curious and always looking for better ways of working.
  • Passionate about developing people - a leader people want to work for: clear, fair and invested in talent.
  • Equally comfortable in a client meeting, an edit review or on the studio floor.
