Vice President, Finance

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI)Nashville Metropolitan AreaPosted

Job Description

THE COMPANY

BMI (a New Mountain Capital Portfolio Company) is the world's largest Performing Rights Organization (PRO), a $2.0B+ revenue business that manages and monetizes 25 million musical works on behalf of 1.5 million songwriters, composers, and publishers. It collects license fees from over 170k licensees across the music-use economy, which permits them to play music from BMI's affiliate catalog of works: broadcast television and radio, streaming platforms, live music venues, bars & restaurants, and other brick-and-mortar commercial businesses, then distributes the proceeds as royalties to its affiliates.

After 80+ years of operating as a non-profit organization and becoming a leading Performing Rights Organization on the global landscape, BMI made the transition to for-profit in 2022 in order to invest more in innovation and become a for-profit PRO with an open-door policy for all songwriters and composers. In 2024, New Mountain Capital completed its acquisition of BMI, adding institutional capital to invest behind their growth journey and develop the next-generation platform that positions it as a winner in the ever-evolving global marketplace.

THE OPPORTUNIY

This is a builder's role. BMI is two years into one of the most significant business transformations in the music industry, moving from an 80-year not-for-profit operating model to a PE-backed growth platform with real EBITDA targets, board reporting expectations, and a mandate to develop new revenue streams beyond its core PRO function. The financial infrastructure to support that ambition is being built now.

The VP, Finance role will own a broad scope across FP&A, Treasury, and strategic finance, reporting directly to the CFO and working closely with New Mountain Capital's operating team and the Board. This is not a pure transformation role: BMI is a large, complex business with a full corporate finance operation that must run with precision while the new infrastructure is being built alongside it. The right person can do both: run a rigorous day-to-day finance function and build the systems, reporting, and business plans that a PE-backed platform requires.

BMI's business model is genuinely distinctive: recurring license revenue, complex royalty distribution waterfalls, accelerating digital streaming mix, and a $200M+ international footprint. The finance leader who thrives here will be intellectually curious about the business, acting as a thought partner helping to drive growth strategy.

RUN THE BUSINESS

Day-to-day FP&A ownership

  • Own the monthly and quarterly financial close process: variance analysis, management reporting, and performance commentary delivered on time, everytime
  • Lead the annual budget and multi-year operating plan; manage the full planning calendar from departmental submissions through board approval
  • Maintain rolling forecasts and reforecasts throughout the year, keeping leadership aligned to current trajectory vs. plan
  • Serve as the primary finance business partner to commercial, licensing, technology, and operations leaders, embedded in their planning, not just reporting on their results
  • Deliver accurate, timely financial recommendations to the CFO and executive team for day-to-day decision making
  • Monitor performance indicators across all revenue lines and cost centers; surface and explain variances before they become surprises

Treasury & capital stewardship

  • Own cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, debt covenant compliance, and banking relationships
  • Manage the timing complexity between BMI's revenue recognition and royalty distribution cycles to optimize working capital

BUILD THE INFRASTRUCTURE

PE-grade reporting

  • Design the unified reporting package for New Mountain Capital, the Board of Directors, and internal leadership: one version of the truth, no redundant deliverables
  • Implement driver-based forecasting tied to BMI's actual business metrics: license volume, digital streaming growth, affiliate additions, and renewal rates
  • Build exit-ready financial infrastructure: clean EBITDA presentation, normalized financials, and institutional-quality reporting that prepares BMI for a future liquidity event

Strategic & value creation finance

  • Develop models that underwrite new revenue streams, partnerships, and platform investments in support of New Mountain's growth thesis
  • Evaluate ROI on technology deployments, marketing programs, and digital platform expansion
  • Lead the team and systems build-out: Oracle, Adaptive Insights, and Power BI integration to support a scalable, data-driven finance function

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 15+ years of FP&A and finance leadership; VP-level experience in a PE-backed environment
  • A proven builder: track record of constructing financial reporting infrastructure, not just man
  • aging itExperience with recurring revenue, licensing, subscription, or royalty/distribution models; comfort with revenue recognition timing complexity
  • Experience with post M&A integration
  • Advanced modeling, driver-based forecasting, and scenario analysis skills
  • Treasury experience: cash forecasting, covenant compliance, banking relationships
  • Strong communicator who translates financial complexity into clear executive and board-level narrative
  • Bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, or Business required; MBA or CPA preferred
  • Experience working for a SaaS company preferred
