POSITION DETAILS

CUNY TV, the City University of New York’s television station, has been educating and informing viewers for more than three decades, remaining committed to extending CUNY’s academic mission to offer lifelong learning opportunities to all New Yorkers. Established in 1985, CUNY TV reaches 7.3 million broadcast households in the New York metro area from its studios at the CUNY Graduate Center. CUNY TV is broadcast over the air on channel 25.3 and in the five boroughs via cable channels, Spectrum and Optimum on channel 75, RCN on channel 77 and Verizon FiOS on channel 30.

CUNY TV invites applications for the position of Co-Director of Production. The Co-Director of Production manages post-production editing, while also overseeing 15 studio show productions, including approval of each episode for clarity and broadcast quality, conducting monthly meetings with studio show producers to maintain broadcast creativity, and ensuring the on-time delivery of studio programming.

Key duties include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Oversees all studio show productions and programing are aligned with CUNY TV’s editorial mission.
  • Manages post-production editing, which comprises assigning editors to segments and/or shows and following through on the completion of those assignments.
  • Ensures accurate and timely delivery of studio programming.
  • Provides direction to studio show producers, associate producers, hosts, editors, and production assistants.
  • Manages studio producers and hosts timesheet and annual leave requests.
  • Provides creative insights and guidance for social media to the production staff at CUNY TV.
  • Assists the Director of Production with magazine show delivery and segment approval which includes selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating professional staff (i.e. magazine producers, associate producers, reporters, hosts, editors, and production assistants).
  • Supports the delivery of various magazine show segments and programs.
  • Assists in reviewing and approving content and audition talent for multiple shows.
  • Assists in managing, show running and hosting one magazine show, as well as maintaining and overseeing the program’s social media presence.
  • Fosters and maintains a code of ethics centering on public trust, truthfulness, fairness, integrity, independence, and accountability.

NOTE:

Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, communications, or another related field.
  • 15 or more years’ experience as a journalist/TV Producer in a major market, including experience with TV Studio and Magazine productions.
  • Fluency with Microsoft and familiarity with Premier editing suite.
  • Bilingual (English /Spanish) desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience managing creative teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well organized and able to manage a production budget.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Directs activities of broadcast and multimedia facilities, production and operations.

  • Develops, plans and oversees the day-to-day operations of a film, television, or radio facility, working with College departments and external organizations to assure appropriate and effective use of facilities
  • Identifies and creates collaborative partnerships with broadcast, entertainment and media organizations to advance the mission of the College
  • Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises full-time and part-time employees including student interns
  • Cultivates strong relationships with internal clients, including but not limited to coverage of events such as graduation, convocation, lecture series, and conferences
  • Develops and implements operating guidelines and standards, and monitors compliance with FCC regulations
  • Prepares and manages annual operating budget; may oversee facilities rental activities and develop an external clientele
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $104,461 to $115,333 ,;commensurate with qualifications, experience, and education.
