Job Summary:

We’re looking for a talented and detail-oriented Prop Designer to create visually engaging and functional props for a CG series. The ideal candidate will have strong drafting skills, design versatility, and a good understanding of how props contribute to character, story, and worldbuilding. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Art Director and team to ensure props fit seamlessly within the show’s visual style and are production-ready for translation into CG. 

  • Design props based on story elements and script descriptions that are consistent with the look and style of the series. 

  • Design multiple concept pieces for each prop, vehicle, gadget, tool, furniture, and handheld items, trying out different versions of the same asset. 

  • Create turnarounds and provide a clean pass of the final approved design. 

  • Adhere to the production schedule provided by Line Producer and maintained by Production Supervisor to ensure cost effective, timely production. 

  • Prepare all prop designs for shipment to oversees vendor animation studios, maintaining organized files and adherence to naming conventions. 

  • Work closely with Art Director to resolve design issues and deadlines. 

  • Adhere to the production schedule provided by Line Producer to ensure cost effective, timely production. 

 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in prop design for animation, games, or visual development. 

  • Emphasis on strong communication, collaboration, and ability to manage timelines within creative vision. 

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creativity, versatility, and clear understanding of form, function and design appeal. 

  • Proficient in industry-standard digital design tools that include Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or SketchUp. A familiarity with 3D tools is a plus. 

  • Ability to work within an established style while bringing your own creative flair. 

  • Familiarity with asset management tools like ShotGrid, Ftrack, or similar. 

 

Education:

  • Bachelor degree preferred or equivalent work experience  

 

Job Location: Glendale, CA 


The pay rate for this role in California is $56.88 to $63.35 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
