The Opportunity:
The Memphis Grizzlies are seeking an accomplished leader to join our Marketing team in the pivotal role of Director of Marketing. In this position, using a data driven approach, you will drive the development and implementation of marketing strategies and campaign implementation, aimed at maximizing revenue, growing, and engaging our fanbase and elevating our brand. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, you will oversee both the Digital Marketing and Marketing Operations teams while ensuring seamless alignment with our objectives across all brands, including the Grizzlies, FedExForum, Memphis Hustle, Grind City Media, and Grizz Gaming.
Your responsibilities will include leading the development and execution of marketing initiatives and managing projects from inception to completion while aligning them with revenue generating organizational objectives. Collaboration among the Marketing Technology, Digital Marketing, Marketing Operations and Creative teams will be key. Your role will also involve prioritizing projects in accordance with strategic goals, fostering stakeholder alignment and tracking progress to ensure timely delivery. The ideal candidate for this role possesses exceptional paid advertising and digital marketing knowledge, a proactive and organized project management approach, consensus-building skills, and a dedication to driving revenue, innovation and excellence in marketing practices.
In This Role You Will:
- In collaboration with the VP of Marketing, define and implement the overarching marketing vision, using a data driven approach that encompasses innovative omni-channel strategies, customer personas, and journey mapping
- Drive the development and implementation of marketing and paid advertising strategies and campaigns to maximize revenue (ticket sales, corporate partnerships), and grow and engage our fanbase
- Oversee the Digital Marketing and Marketing Operations teams, providing guidance and feedback to ensure the execution and success of marketing plans, goals and objectives
- Teach and guide the Advertising Manager to develop and implement robust paid advertising strategies across various platforms to maximize revenue streams
- Manage and optimize processes and workflows within the marketing operations team, establishing best practices to streamline project execution and ensure the successful implementation of marketing campaigns and initiatives.
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans and campaigns across various channels, including email, SMS, paid advertising, website and mobile app
- Leverage data-driven insights to measure campaign performance, discover actionable insights and identify areas for improvement
- Work with the VP of Marketing to define key performance indicators and establish benchmarks for success for all tentpole initiatives
- Lead major revenue-generating marketing projects, communicate strategies, plans, and roadmaps, and cultivate strategic partnerships within the organization
- Collaborate with other departments such as Ticket Sales, Partnerships, Broadcast, and Community Engagement to plan for and execute marketing objectives
- Facilitate cooperation among stakeholders and senior leadership to integrate marketing strategy into the organization's overall objectives
- Work with the marketing operations team to establish clear request processes and deadlines, providing training and guidance to departments to ensure a thorough understanding of project requirements and turn-times.
- Monitor task progress, hold team members accountable, and conduct project post-mortems as needed
- Bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field
- 6-8 years of full-time relevant work experience in Marketing (including, managing paid advertisement campaigns, brand management or strategy role and creating and sending emails via email service providers)
- 3-5 years managing staff, including responsibility for project assignments and performance evaluation, preferred
- Possess a proven record in sport marketing, advertising, and experience working cross-functionally to secure buy-in from multiple internal departments on programming opportunities
- Excellent writing, proofreading and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Highly skilled in project management, specifically leading large project implementations that require cross-departmental teamwork to meet timelines and desired results
- Ability to lead, prioritize and delegate multiple concurrent, time-sensitive projects on behalf of a team
- Proven experience in email and advertising leadership roles, with a track record of developing and executing successful campaigns.
- Demonstrated understanding of and management to key performance indicators, metrics attainment, scorecards, dashboards, etc.
- Ability to communicate articulately and confidently with individuals at every level of the organization both written and verbally
- Proactive, well-organized, a consensus builder, strict with ensuring campaigns and projects are delivered on-time and within scope, and a natural problem-solver
- Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends as required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Nice to Have:
- Project Management Certification (PgMP, PMP or CAPM) from PMI strongly preferred
- Prior experience with Wrike and Salesforce are a plus
- Knowledge of sports and entertainment, specifically NBA basketball, is a bonus
- Knowledge of Google Analytics for measurement of campaign performance
- Experience with using Marketing Automation Platforms
- Experience with programmatic buying
- Experience with Data Management Platforms and Customer Data Platforms
