Job Description

  • Supervise the construction of department schedules and tie to the master schedule ensuring a logical and viable workflow in support of the show production strategy.
  • Responsible for driving production to accomplish quotas and deadlines, raising concerns to Producer in a timely manner to troubleshoot issues that prevent departments from hitting quotas, and meeting the overall production strategy.
  • Measure trends against plan, highlight inventory and productivity concerns, acknowledge accomplishments, provide risk assessment, and recommend solution options when necessary.
  • Partner with Producer to manage bidding process and collaborate with leadership to offer options to ensure complexity is managed within schedule and budget parameters.
  • Author, present, and ensure accuracy of all production reports including (but not limited to): master production reports, 8-week projections, Inventory/Left to Do reports, Life of a Sequence.
  • Work closely with Production Accountant to monitor the scheduled labor weeks and personnel needs, and partner together to audit transitions against production staffing plans for dates and rates and ensure accuracy of staffing profile to schedule.
  • Ensure inventory flows through the pipeline in proportion to staffing levels and productivity expectations.
  • Run weekly production meetings and oversee an efficient Dailies process in all departments.
  • Meet regularly with Department Head and Production Supervisor of each department to discuss departmental progress, challenges, team issues, and to acknowledge successes.
  • Solicit opinion and support an environment where people are comfortable expressing their views.
  • Promote cross-department collaboration and communication and ensure that best practices from previous shows are adopted throughout the production.
  • Approve timecards and manage logistics to support overtime strategy set by Producer.
  • Approve vacation requests and ensure department quota strategy acknowledges approved time off.
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback to direct reports, including delivering annual reviews.
  • Collaborate with the Producer, HR, and Studio Management on employee performance and conduct.
  • Facilitate and manage initiatives to develop and maintain crew morale.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day tone of the production in support of the cultural values of the studio.
  • Work with Production Supervisors and Department Heads in conjunction with the Training Department to address show-specific training and documentation needed.
  • Partner with Department Managers on show interviewing, hiring, and space planning.
  • Be aware of the postmortems and wrap book deliverables required at project completion and ensure they are being gathered during the course of production.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

Education and Experiences Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s (or foreign equivalent) in Film Studies, Film Production or closely related field (or foreign equivalent) plus four (4) years of experience in the job offered, or Feature Animation Production, or closely related occupation.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess expertise/knowledge sufficient to adequately perform the duties of the job being offered.
  • Expertise/knowledge may be gained through employment experience or education. Such expertise/knowledge cannot be "quantified" by "time."
  • Required expertise/knowledge includes: Experience in closing of 2+ feature length animated movies; Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Shotgun and Shotgrid;
  • Experience in Linux; Verifiable track record of successfully managing large artistic teams in a fast-paced production environment;
  • Knowledge of analytics and strategy pertaining to animated production department workflow, inventory, and reporting;
  • Advanced knowledge of full animation production pipeline process;
  • Experienced in creating strategic department schedules with an understanding of both asset and shot based departments.
