27 News (KSNT) and FOX 43 News (KTMJ) in Topeka are looking for a creative and driven Sports Producer who will also work as a News MMJ a few days a week. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to spend time between sports production and news reporting in a dynamic newsroom environment.
Position Overview:
You will lead the production of K-Nation, our weekly KU/K-State Division I sports show, while contributing to daily news coverage during the week. K-Nation is the foundation of our sports brand and a key part of our weekend lineup. As producer, you’ll oversee Sunday broadcasts, manage the editorial calendar, book guests and generate digital content. You’ll also shoot video and interviews to enhance the show.
As an MMJ, you’ll report and produce news stories across digital and broadcast platforms, providing clear, engaging and meaningful journalism to our audience.
  • Key Responsibilities – Sports Producer:
  • Produce weekly long-form sports show (K-Nation) for broadcast and digital.
  • Write scripts, teases, pre-shows, and cold opens.
  • View, edit, and approve video clips for quality and accuracy.
  • Create graphics to complement storytelling.
  • Shoot interviews and event coverage for broadcast and web.
  • Book guests and coordinate show segments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with university athletics programs.
  • Manage credential requests and logistics for sports coverage.
  • Work weekends regularly to produce Sunday night broadcasts.
  • Key Responsibilities – News MMJ:
  • Produce and report compelling news stories for on-air and digital platforms.
  • Conduct interviews and research to support storytelling.
  • Shoot and edit video content for news broadcasts and digital distribution.
  • Write and publish articles for KSNT.com and engage audiences on social media.
  • Pitch story ideas, collaborate with newsroom teams and cover breaking news.
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in scriptwriting, video editing and graphic creation.
  • Strong storytelling, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable with digital editing systems, newsroom technology and field equipment.
  • Strong on-air presence and ability to adapt to fast-paced environments.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays.
