Work hard, have fun and make history with Amazon MGM Studios team. We are looking for a smart, motivated attorney to support Amazon’s rapidly growing video production business. In this role based in Japan, you will mainly handle legal aspects of development, production and marketing of original video content in support of scripted, unscripted and animated video contents initiatives in Japan, including developing forms and policies, and structuring, drafting and negotiating a wide range of complicated agreements such as rights option and acquisition agreements, writer agreements, producer agreements, production services agreements, co-production agreements, above-the-line talent agreements, documentary and reality participant and access agreements, below-the-line crew agreements and other production related agreements.

The attorney will be an integral part of the business and will need to be comfortable providing counsel directly to business leadership both on legal and business issues. The attorney will also work closely with US and other international legal and business teams who support Amazon MGM Studio's business. The successful candidate will be client-service oriented and be able to think big while also paying great attention to detail on tight deadlines. The successful candidate will also be able to prioritize appropriately and easily switch gears without sacrificing quality of work, maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information, and have the ability to work well with people at all levels inside and outside Amazon.

Key job responsibilities
- Managing legal aspects of development, production and marketing of original video content in support of scripted, unscripted and animated video contents initiatives in Japan, including developing forms and policies, and structuring, drafting and negotiating a wide range of complicated agreements such as rights option and acquisition agreements, writer agreements, producer agreements, production services agreements, co-production agreements, above-the-line talent agreements, documentary and reality participant and access agreements, below-the-line crew agreements and other production related agreements.
- Managing all legal matters during the course of development, production and marketing, including evaluating rights issues, confirming chain of title and handling clearance matters, guild issues, standards and practices review, and promotion and publicity issues.
- Analyzing and interpreting contracts and provide thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues in a wide range of international legal areas, including intellectual property, digital media, entertainment and labor, rights of publicity and regulatory compliance.

Basic Qualifications

- Knowledge of internet, software, and media industries and the legal and regulatory environment in which they operate or equivalent
- Law degree (Juris Doctor or equivalent) from a leading university and law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Japan
- 3+ years of corporate law practice experience
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and Japanese at business level or above
- Knowledge of JP Copyright Law

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience working with a studio, production company, or an entertainment and media law firm, and has extensive experience and strong skills in drafting and negotiating contracts
- Excellent ability to analyze and assess business processes, spot issues and propose/implement solutions
- Ability to function autonomously yet communicate laterally and upwardly with ease
- Strong legal and business judgment
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and coordinate complex issues and projects with diverse levels of management and employees
