Job Description
Lotus Seattle is seeking a dynamic and experienced Weekend Anchor/Editor/Reporter for its heritage news station, Northwest Newsradio 97-7, AM 1000. The ideal candidate will help prepare and deliver engaging news content, report on breaking news events, and produce special projects and programming as assigned.
The Weekend Anchor/Editor/Reporter position at Northwest Newsradio is a vital news delivery and content creator for our station. Your material is used throughout the day on several different broadcasts. This individual in this position is also an overall ambassador for our brand, and is expected to also work at special events, and alongside our sales staff promote the station to Northwest Newsradio clients.
The perfect candidate has a minimum of 2 years’ experience in large market media, is proficient and aggressive in social media, is an excellent writer, and embraces using digital platforms (podcasting, streaming audio, streaming video) to promote the Northwest Newsradio brand. Candidates need to submit an audio demonstration of their on-air ability with their resume, along with a sample of radio news writing. Candidates should also be prepared to take a writing test if requested. NOTE: This position is an on-site role that requires the employee to work a full day at our Seattle studios, including weekends, to help build a healthy culture and team at Lotus Seattle Corp.
Primary, daily responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Anchor weekend morning newscasts, as well as produce weekend live paid programming
- Content Creation. Plan, prepare, and produce material for newscast.
- Host or help produce special programming as assigned.
- Engage listeners in social media. Post and interact with listeners during workday.
- Participate regularly in station promotions and appearances.
- Participate regularly in charity events representing Northwest Newsradio.
- Work with sales team. This means participating on sales calls to clients as needed.
- Be available for any other assignment from the Director of News and Programming.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred
- On-air radio or television news reading experience in a large market
- Passionate and Knowledgeable about the news of the day, and the names of those regularly in the news
- Excellent verbal communications skills
- Excellent storytelling ability
- Excellent writing skills
- Excellent ability to incorporate natural sound and music into stories when appropriate
- Good ability to work efficiently, quickly and accurately turning material for on air, social media, and our website
- Good knowledge of radio editing software including Adobe Audition and similar programs
- Familiarity with NewsBoss news software
- Positive attitude and ability to work both independently and as a team

- Ability to determine the most compelling material our audience finds relevant and prioritize it in your broadcast daypart
Working Conditions and Travel Requirements
- Five days in the office per week. Work Schedule will be Saturday through Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday as days off (subject to change as needed)
- May require travel to station promotion events and/or high-profile news events.
- Valid drivers’ license with good driving record.

Compensation
$31.25 per Hour – Annual Salary $65,000
