Job Description
The Technical Producer at Stories Illuminated takes projects from new business through project wrap. They work closely with the CCO, supporting bidding and client relationship management, and lead the assignment and handoff of projects to the larger team. After handoff, they continue to support the team with client communications and problem solving over the lifecycle of the project. The Technical Producer may occasionally be assigned to lead projects directly, implementing creative technology solutions for client events and activations.
This role ensures that assigned projects and teams are meeting milestones and deadlines, maintaining a high standard of work, and running efficiently and effectively. They foster an open, transparent environment while keeping documentation updated, meetings on track, and stakeholders in the loop. They track assigned projects against schedules and budgets, monitoring status and problem solving as needed. This role requires agility, professionalism, attention to detail, and grace under pressure; all while staying focused on creative output and client experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guide projects from new business phase to pre-production, continuing to support with problem solving and client management through to wrap.
- Directly assist CCO with the new business process including written and verbal client communications, budgeting, and some initial technical design and planning.
- Create and maintain documentation throughout the new business process, from meeting notes and email records, to status trackers and budgeting documentation.
- Think critically throughout the new business process to anticipate issues and concerns—ask questions, close loops, and drive timely follow ups and approvals.
- Maintain accountability and professionalism under pressure, responding to last minute changes, challenging requests, and tight deadlines with creative and practical solutions.
- Help grow client relationships over time by delivering exceptional customer service and supporting our team to do excellent work that meets client goals.
- When assigned, lead multidisciplinary teams in providing creative technology solutions for live entertainment, including lighting, audio, video, and sfx.
- Lead/Participate in internal creative deck generation, deck review, and design development meetings both internal and client-facing.
- Work with the leadership team in scoping and assigning projects, keeping an eye on the team's workload, schedule conflicts, strengths, and interests.
- Work closely with the Project Management team to ensure that assigned projects have the required operational support.
- Ensure the team has a thorough understanding of project vision and that the work meets overall priorities, goals, and criteria.
- Build and maintain effective client relationships, ensuring that all client needs are heard, understood, and addressed in a timely manner-both on and off site.
- Specify materials, products, fixtures, etc for projects, in both rental and sales applications.
- When assigned, act as Designer for projects, including: scheduling and managing site visits; drafting lighting, production and schematic plans in VectorWorks; dictating production logistics such as rentals, deliveries, and labor; and participating in hands-on work on project-site.
- Work with F&A team on client invoicing, adders, or other project related financial tasks.
- Lead project post mortems and document key learnings to mitigate future issues.
- Develop SOPs as needed, ensuring processes are formally documented and the team is trained on them.
- Participate in the Management Team at Stories Illuminated, and manage select team members as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or 8 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Deep experience in one of the following required: Architectural, Live Event, Install Systems & Integration, Television/Film, Experiential Marketing, Concerts
- Proficient in VectorWorks required
- Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, and Google Suite preferred
- Can explain creative and technical ideas to people of varying background/experience
- Experience creating and administering project budgets
- Interest in all technical design disciplines including audio, projection, special effects, with an emphasis on lighting design
- Comfortable delegating tasks and leading teams
- Collaborative-driven individual well versed with working on interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Available for occasional travel to be onsite, both locally and out of town

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
