This remarkable service is accessible to around 4.9 million people in the Cleveland and Youngstown designated market areas, making it the most extensive population of Ohio's eight PBS member stations. On average, over a million viewers tune in each month. The organization also runs two standard definition channels: Fusion (WNEO 45.2 / WEAO 49.2) and FNX (WNEO 45.3 / WEAO 49.3).
SUMMARY: As a member of a growing local production team in Kent, the Assistant Producer provides various production support for in-studio and remote field locations, special projects, and station initiatives. This is a full-time position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Localize national promo content by adding station tags and branding and/or guides interns/freelance workers in the completion of promos.
- Apply closed captions to productions for broadcast and/or stream and/or guides interns/freelance workers in the completion of closed captions.
- Produces original video content in the field and studio.
- Edit content for on-air, online, and future/unknown distribution methods with Premiere Pro and uses Adobe Media Encoder for various exports.
- Assist with booking and organizing studio and field video shoots and crews.
- Performs crew functions such as TD, Audio, Prompter, Floor Directing for productions.
- Research, develop, and produce editorially rich storytelling designed for on-air and online audiences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Content Department with submissions for programming for national distribution and prepares programming that is accepted.
- Help coordinate logistics of studio and field productions for all three production phases.
- Assist in the awards submission process for local, regional, and national submissions.
- Support producers and directors as required, both station staff and third-party producers.
- Write scripts and prepares outlines, formats, and rough-cut productions for approval.
- Prepare the studio with requested equipment and sets for virtual and in-person meetings, special events, and studio tours.
- Produce and edit short segments and spots.
- Support third-party production partners, including independent producers and their crews, when necessary.
- Report video and audio production equipment issues to the appropriate Engineering/Operations Staff; assists in repair and upkeep of studio and production sets and properties.
- Lead and/or guide the work of others, including interns, freelancers, and volunteers.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated writing skills with careful attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Has studio and field production skills, including camera, lighting, audio, video switcher, teleprompter, graphics, animation, and movement of sets.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Google Workspace.
- Experience with producing promotional materials and editing closed captions to programs using Adobe Premiere Pro is preferred.
- Prior experience, at least 1 year, in non-commercial public television production is preferred.
- Candidates with editing and crew experience will be given preference.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job primarily offers day shifts, but weekend and evening work may be required. The job demands, and work environment align with the job’s essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform their duties. This role involves sitting and standing, using a computer at a desk, occasionally walking and reaching, and lifting objects up to 15 lbs. Proper lifting techniques should be used. Work is in an office with standard indoor conditions although productions may take place outdoors on occasion.
