Job Description

Proxima is a video game studio creating new kinds of experiences that resonate far beyond the screen. We launched Suck Up!, a game that leverages artificial intelligence to create a new type of humor in play. The game has become a social phenomenon, generating over 400 million views across YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms.

We believe we are at an extraordinary moment in video games: small, creative teams can create disproportionately culturally relevant experiences. From Lethal Company to Suck Up!, breakout games from lean teams are shaping the future of play. Proxima is building at that frontier, and we’re looking for a Game Designer to join us as a core member of the team.

As a Game Designer at Proxima, you will:

  • Create game concepts that are socially resonant, designed to spread, spark conversation, and invite players to share
  • Design and refine gameplay systems end-to-end, from prototyping and early concepts to launch and iteration
  • Collaborate closely with engineering (often directly in-engine) and art to bring design ideas to life
  • Playtest, balance, and adjust designs based on feedback and player data
  • Push the boundaries of what’s possible in small-team development, working hands-on across disciplines

You might be a great fit if you are:

  • Innately creative, with a deep passion for video games as both craft and culture
  • Skilled at understanding the needs, habits, and play patterns of today’s players
  • Excited by the intersection of design, virality, and social relevance; instincts for how games catch fire, spread online, and become part of culture
  • Scrappy and hands-on: willing to roll up your sleeves to prototype, playtest, and iterate quickly
  • A collaborative teammate who thrives in small, fast-moving teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in game design within the video games industry
  • Strong understanding of the full game development process across disciplines
  • Experience building and releasing your own projects (indie games, Roblox experiences, prototypes, mods, etc.)
  • Familiarity with game engines (Unity, Unreal, or similar)
