Your Mission

A VFX Artist will craft explosions, spells, ambient world effects, and larger world-destruction animations. You will be the bridge between art and design communicating gameplay ideas to the player all while building a compelling visual storytelling experience. An artist on this team should have familiarity with and possess hand-painted texturing skills and fundamentals such as timing, motion, shape language, 3D composition, and an interest in stylized FX. We encourage you to continue the core mission of the WoW Art team, which is crafting the highest quality handcrafted art in the industry. You can help us build a fun, engaging world for players.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.

What you bring to the table:

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

Create FX for mounts, pets, and other shop items in the World of Warcraft VFX style
Ability to contribute to all stages of VFX development, from early R&D to final assets
Excitement for working closely with other Artists
Regularly connect with Production, Design, and other departments

Requirements

Experience

+5 years of experience for games and a portfolio that demonstrates high-quality work
Experience developing particle systems and geometry-based visual effects
Understand real-time game development needs

Extra Points

Background in animation with an eye for timing is a plus
Highly motivated, creative problem solver, and a great team-first focus
Ability to explore a wide variety of ideas that push the World of Warcraft style

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $29.81 - $55.14 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
