Job Summary
The Graphic Designer at the Harbert College of Business plays a critical role in visually communicating the college’s mission of producing highly desired graduates and advancing business thought leadership. This role supports recruitment, engagement, and branding efforts through high-quality visual content. The designer is responsible for creating print and digital materials that establish a consistent, professional image for the college and enhance its reputation among prospective students, alumni, donors, faculty, and external stakeholders.

Formal Title: Media Production Specialist

Essential Functions
The Graphic Designer has responsibility for the following:
  • Designs and creates graphics and artistic illustrations for print, digital and exhibits.
  • Provide original creative concepts and artwork for a variety of marketing and communication projects.
  • Advise and collaborate with faculty and staff to develop effective design solutions.
  • May supervise others in the production and coordination of deliverables.
  • Support college events with marketing and media production needs, including some night and weekend work.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Level II: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcasting, Film, or Television Production and 2 years of experience providing creative, technical, or support services for various medias.

Level III: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcasting, Film, or Television Production and 4 years of experience providing creative, technical, or support services for various medias.

Substitution allowed for Education: When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education.

Supervision:
  • May provide guidance to student workers or coordinate with vendors and freelance artists.
  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibility over full-time staff but may coordinate specific design tasks or projects.

Communication and collaboration:
  • Engages frequently with internal stakeholders including faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • May coordinate with external vendors or partners for print services, promotional materials, and event production.
  • Maintains a professional and strategic approach to visual storytelling and messaging.

Working conditions:
  • Environment: Primarily an indoor, comfortable office setting with minimal physical demands.
  • Schedule: Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for events and deadlines.
  • Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, use of hands, and visual attention to detail; occasional standing or light lifting (up to 25 lbs).


Minimum Technology Skills
Technology Skills
  • Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Familiarity with web design and editing platforms is a plus.
  • Experience with photography, and ability to produce digital and print-ready materials.
  • Strong understanding of visual identity and brand consistency.
