Program Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited two or four-year college/university in the United States, pursing an undergraduate, graduate and/or law degree  
  • Graduating between Spring 2024-Fall 2026  
  • Have access to housing and transportation within the designated city (We do not offer housing accommodations)
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., H1-B, CTP, OPT, etc.)
  • Commit to 20-40 hours per week (based on individual business area)

How You’ll CREATE:

Business & Legal Affairs:

  • Review and summarize contracts

  • Review redlined agreements, correspondence and other documents

  • Draft amendments and other legal documents

  • Legal research

  • Assist in record keeping and data management for non-attorney teams

  • Attend weekly meetings and phone calls with supervising attorneys

  • Interact with other departments based on department needs and tasks

IT Legal:

Business & Legal Affairs provides legal support to our global BU's and labels with respect to commercial services agreements/transactions. Our primary internal clients are eComm, IT, People, Inclusion & Culture, Global Security Office, Finance, Supply Chain and others.

  • Review, draft, and negotiate agreements

  • Provide administrative support.

  • Specific projects and tasks both within our team as well as in partnership with our broader BLA team

Looking for: Law student with an interest in IT/tech/e-commerce/supply chain, and other service-based commercial transactions. Must be organized, dependable, and ready to learn.

Litigation:

Our department handles legal claims for and against the Universal Music Group family of companies, including recorded music, music publishing, merch and distribution. We also respond to legal inquiries, both internal and external.

  • Projects might include statutory and case law research, reviewing contracts and other documents, drafting memos and agreements, reviewing potential infringements and drafting C&D letters, among other things.

Public Policy:

  • Conduct research on legislation, press reports and other matters, as needed. Ability to probe online sources to find information and compile them into a comprehensible format

  • Attend congressional staff hearings and industry meetings, as applicable, with Senior VP, Public Policy and Government Relations

  • Assist Manager, Public Policy and Government Relations with the day-to-day operations; drafting legislative reports; coordinating special events and scheduling

  • Research and prepare materials for congressional and UMG executive meetings

  • Maintain distribution lists of internal and external contacts

  • Ad hoc projects

  • IT Legal: interest in IT/tech/e-commerce/supply chain, and other service-based commercial transactions

In addition, specifically for Public Policy:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of government

  • Previous Capitol Hill experience or pursing a degree in political science/government is preferred

  • Currently pursing an undergraduate degree (Political Science, Government, Public Policy)

Salary Range:

$13-$25 per hour
