The Sands College of Performing Arts at Pace University is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as the Part-time Assistant Unit Production Manager. The Assistant Unit Production Manager supports the film projects for the BFA of Film, Television, Voice-Over and Commercial (FTVC) program.
Position Duties
- Responsible for managing all film crew personnel, including students, staff and guest artists/technicians
- Responsible for managing the production schedule and the detailed scheduling of each project, including the call sheets, shooting schedules and the day-to-day logistics
- Responsible for working with the Unit Production Manager (aka, Sand’s Director of Production) on managing each project’s budget
- Works with the Unit Production Manager to make the shoot schedule that satisfies the scheduling restrictions of all cast and crew, as well as location availability
- Ensures that all paperwork throughout each project is in order
- Oversees the initial location scouting and manages all arrangements to secure locations.
- Responsible for organizing and managing the transportation of the actors, crew and equipment for the duration of each project’s filming schedule
- Ensures that the production of each project runs smoothly and efficiently
- Creates the necessary security memos as necessary for each Pace building affected by each project’s filming schedule
- Responsible for making sure that all locations and cast have the prerequisite releases filed with the production office
- Serves as liaison between the location authorities and the director and crew once shooting begins
- Completes a daily production report, giving detail of the day’s shoot and reports any deviations from the master shooting schedule
- Responsible for on set safety, as well as instructing student labor and other technical staff as needed
- Supervise, mentor and train the student labor as well as student designers on how to Prepare and work with professional film technicians.
- In addition to the department supervisor, Production Associates will also be under the direction of the Director of Production.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Work Hours
Exact hours are based on the production schedule and needs for each project. Maximum of 20 hours per week. Schedule is made and agreed upon prior to the start of each semester. Weekend and evening hours are required.
Qualifications
- The ideal individual will have a strong drive to provide high-quality work, and the ability to exercise good judgement in a variety of situations
- Ample experience in other areas of film production
- Possess strong written and verbal communication, organization skills and the ability to be part of a team.
- Ability to manage time and productivity effectively.
Ability to multitask and achieve tight deadlines - Able to plan, organize and administer a complex production with multiple people
- Working knowledge of film production, beyond their specific job duties
- Able to prioritize what requires immediate attention and find quick solutions
- Able to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment
- Approachable and good at managing crew and actors, and looking after the welfare of everyone working on each project.
- Ability to work well under pressure and respond calmly, with curiosity and efficiency to notes generated during the production and film shoot process
- Ability to work in an environment with adapting priorities based on the needs of the film production, while maintaining a spirit of creative thinking and problem-solving
- Proficiency in delegation and distributing tasks amongst the film production team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Requirements
- BS/BA/BFA and 2-3 years of experience in film production; without the degree, 5 years of experience may be considered
- Ability to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds of equipment, up and down stairs in varied lighting conditions.
- Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time
- Team player that requires minimal guidance to accomplish tasks that involve instructing, coaching, demonstrating, supervising, and working alongside students of various experience levels to teach them necessary technical skills.
- Valid Driver’s License: ability to drive a 14’ box truck and cargo van are preferred
