5:00 Films & Media is an award-winning creative studio that partners with non-profits, trade associations, and mission-driven organizations to tell powerful stories that make a real impact. We're a small, collaborative team that cares deeply about doing work we’re proud of and makes a difference in the world. While video production is at the heart of what we do, we're expanding our in-house graphics and animation capabilities—and we're looking for an Associate Motion Designer to grow with us.

About the Role

You'll support creative projects across the entire studio— from branded motion graphics, to animated videos and commercials, to graphic design for print materials. Our clients span many industries and our projects vary widely in style and scale. You will report to the Art Director and collaborate with other creatives from initial concept to final delivery.

This role is a great fit for someone with strong foundational design skills who is eager to join a fun, collaborative team where they can learn and grow. This position requires working in our Columbia, MD office three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Motion Graphics

• Design and animate basic-to-intermediate graphics, typography, and visual elements for digital, video, and social platforms.
• Create motion graphics templates for social media content and update periodically with new content.
• Prepare design assets for workflows across video, animation, and motion graphics projects.
• Stay current with trends and techniques in motion design.

Graphic Design

• Design layouts and visual assets for print and digital, including brochures, one-pagers, and branded materials.
• Maintain visual consistency across formats and channels.
• Support senior designers on more complex projects.
• Stay current with trends and techniques in graphic design.

Collaboration / Teamwork

• Take direction from the Art Director and apply feedback through iteration.
• Collaborate with other designers and video producers on creative projects.
• Manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
• Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and creative team environment.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.
• Strong foundational design skills: layout, typography, color, visual hierarchy.
• Working knowledge of animation principles, timing, and motion graphics.
• Familiarity with designing for digital and social media platforms.
• Ability to take direction, apply feedback, and iterate thoughtfully.
• Strong attention to detail and time management.
• A portfolio or reel (student work and personal projects are welcome; for collaborative work, describe your specific contributions.)
• Bachelor's degree in graphic design, animation, or equivalent experience.

Bonus Points For:

• Experience with Cinema 4D or Blender.
• Familiarity with Figma.
• Illustration skills.
• Familiarity with brand identity systems and style guides
• Experience with short-form social content.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $60,000 annually
