Job Description
The CG Production Coordinator at ONYX VFX supports the successful execution of CG and VFX workflows within a fast-paced film, television, or streaming production environment. This role works closely with CG Supervisors, VFX Producers, Department Leads, Artists and other production personnel to ensure that schedules, assets, and shot progress are tracked accurately and delivered on time.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating within complex post-production pipelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Scheduling
- Track CG and VFX shot progress across multiple scenes, sequences and projects.
- Maintain and update production tracking tools (ShotGrid, Google Docs, Proprietary Software etc.).
- Coordinate daily/weekly schedules for CG Supervisors and department leads.
- Assist in creating and maintaining production calendars and delivery timelines.
- Monitor milestones, flag risks, and escalate schedule concerns to production leadership.
Artist & Department Support
- Facilitate communication between artists, supervisors, editorial, and production.
- Coordinate dailies sessions, reviews, and internal approvals.
- Prepare shot lists, review notes, and distribute supervisor feedback.
- Ensure artists have necessary assets, references, and information.
- Support onboarding of artists.
Data & Asset Management
- Track asset versions and ensure correct deliveries to editorial or clients.
- Coordinate turnovers between production, vendors, and post-production teams.
- Ensure proper file organization and naming conventions are followed.
- Support handoffs between departments (modeling, rigging, animation, lighting, comp, etc.).
Administrative & Reporting
- Generate weekly status reports and progress summaries.
- Assist with budget tracking related to artist allocations and shot counts.
- Maintain accurate documentation of notes and approvals.
- Coordinate vendor communications and delivery tracking (if applicable).
Qualifications:
- 3–5+ years of experience in VFX, animation, post-production, or film/TV production.
- Strong understanding of CG/VFX pipelines (modeling, animation, lighting, compositing).
- Experience with production tracking software (ShotGrid preferred).
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Excel, or similar tools.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of studio delivery requirements (Netflix, Disney, HBO, etc.) is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working on high-budget feature films or episodic streaming content.
- Familiarity with remote and multi-vendor workflows.
- Basic understanding of compositing software (Nuke) or 3D software (Maya, Houdini, Blender).
- Strong problem-solving ability and calm demeanor under pressure.
- Comfortable working collaboratively within a team environment and effectively reporting to multiple supervisors and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates professionalism and discretion when communicating with clients, with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive production information.
- Ability to train, manage, and delegate tasks to Production Assistants and Assistant Coordinators to support overall production efficiency.
