KFMB-TV in San Diego, CA is looking for an exception Sports MSJ/Anchor. The Sports MSJ/Anchor is responsible for gathering sports news materials, interviewing persons both on and off camera, shooting, editing, and preparing and presenting news reports either live on-air or in a pre-recorded format for various digital platforms. The ideal candidate must be enterprising and self-motivated and able to work independently to follow leads to develop and deliver compelling sports stories and sports segments. Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques used to create visual and engaging content for our newscasts, sportscasts, and digital platforms. Strong writing and on-air presentation skills are required. Must actively follow sports events on a local, national, and international level.

Salary Range:
$75,000 - $80,000

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Sports Department, News Managers, Assignment Desk, news producers and other newsroom employees on coordinating sports stories and presenting sports news on air and online.
  • Responsible for daily story conception and development and execution of sports segments.
  • Develop and cultivate sources for news gathering purposes.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer.
  • Understand the tenets of professional Journalism.
  • Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must

Requirements:

  • Proven ability to generate story ideas and have the skills and ability to write, produce, shoot and edit compelling content for all platforms.
  • The Sports MSJ/Anchor must have a strong working knowledge on a variety of sports and must actively follow all sporting news developments.
  • Proven ability to gather, write, edit, and present sports news either live or recorded for broadcast, online, and other digital platforms.
  • Strong writing and producing skills are essential.
  • Ability to contribute ideas daily and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced quickly changing environment and react in live situations to cover breaking situations, etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with peers and superiors and to develop contacts outside the building to aid in newsgathering
