About the Job

 

UMD Athletics Mascot - Champ

The Mascot will assist the Athletics Department staff by performing as our mascot at events. This is a paid position and hours will be determined on an as needed basis. The Bulldog Mascot (Champ) represents UMD Athletics and UMD. Community and athletic events are required. Work Study Preferred. Students must maintain half time enrollment to receive work-study funds. Students enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits during fall and spring semester, may be employed under miscellaneous employment during the summer term without summer enrollment.

Job Duties

  • Perform as “Champ” the UMD Mascot at UMD athletic and community events
  • Commit entirely to the assigned scheduled opportunities for “Champ” to appear on and off campus
  • Assist in creating routines for promotional entertainment
  • Distribute Bulldog Athletic materials during events
  • Personally interact with Bulldog fans
  • Work events throughout the year including summer if available
  • Effective communication only using gestures with no words

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current UMD Student
  • Previous experience in performing or entertaining
  • Experience in community events or functions
  • Knowledge of athletic events
  • Creativity
  • Work study preferred
  • Possess a positive attitude, enthusiasm, interpersonal skills, responsibility, initiative, passion, and work ethics necessary to succeed as a member of the Bulldog Marketing Staff
  • Must be available nights and weekends as needed
  • Maintain professionalism at all times as an employee of UMD Athletics
  • Be able to skate on ice
  • Always be sensitive in my dealings with other personnel, visitors, and students, so that all are treated in a respectful, professional and humane manner

Pay and Benefits

 

Pay Range: $15.25 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
