Video and Photo Production Internship

University of Notre DameNotre Dame, Indiana, United StatesPosted

Job Description

As the Video and Photo Production Intern, you can work up to 20 hours a week (in-person days on campus, hybrid optional) to support the creation of videography and photography content for internal and external audiences at IEI.

You will use University and IEI brand standards to produce content such as video scripts and shot lists, event photo albums, classroom and school visit footage, profiles of teachers, students, and faculty fellows, video series, and other videography and photography materials as needed. Because much of the Institute's work happens in schools and communities, this role offers a rare chance to document education in action — from teacher formation on campus to partner classrooms in the field.

Additionally, the intern will assist in all steps of the production process, including equipment management, pre-production, on-set production, and post-production, and will work with other IEI communications team members and interns to tell the story of the Institute's teaching, research, and service.

Pre-production:

• Planning shoots, coordinating locations and school or classroom access, building shot lists and scripts.

• Coordinating with program staff and school partners on scheduling and confirming that photo and video releases are in place before filming.

On-set production:

• Physically shooting video or photos, including setup and teardown at campus events, lectures, conferences, and partner school sites.

• Conducting or assisting with interviews of educators, students, faculty fellows, and program participants.

Post-production:

• All editing and delivery on the backend, including versions cut for web, email, and social platforms.

• Storing and organizing photo and video files, including tagging metadata appropriately, labeling, and organizing backups.

• Maintaining an accessible asset library the broader communications team can draw from.

Other:

• Organizing and storing video and photography-related equipment.

• Attending IEI communications team meetings and intern manager meetings as required.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing a bachelor's degree in media production, film studies, cinematography, or another related field, with a desire to communicate about education, schools, and the people who serve them.

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; attention to detail.

• Comfort working around children, educators, and school communities, and a commitment to handling their stories with care and discretion.

• Multi-tasking skills and ability to adhere to deadlines.

• A personal laptop with reliable internet access.

• Foundational design skills and basic knowledge of video and photo editing tools like Adobe Creative Suite; previous experience preferred. Owning personal video or photo equipment is not required.

• Basic knowledge of Google Groups, Google Forms, and Google Docs preferred.

• Ability to lift 35 lbs.

• Willingness to complete any background check or safe-environment training required for work involving minors, and to follow University and partner school policies on consent and student privacy.
