Job Description
Blu moves. The four-dot signature runs through verb states - Thinking orbits, Generating blooms, Painting lays a stroke, Sending ripples, Analyzing scans like a bar chart - and every one of them has to land by snapping back into the intempt mark. That rule is the most-iterated decision in our design system, and it respects reduced-motion everywhere. You own making it look inevitable rather than animated.
This is a craft seat, deep in the timeline and the graph editor. It is not a directing role - our Creative Director owns shoots and camera direction. You own the edit and the animation: cut, pace, sound, motion design, and character animation for Blu and the agent family.
You work as a two-person creative pair with a Senior Graphic Designer. They draw it, you make it move. Both seats are open, and whoever lands first helps pick the other.
What you'll own
- Edit long and short form - product films, launch videos, founder stories, customer stories
- Motion design and animation: the four-dot verb states, interface motion, kinetic type, transitions
- Character animation for Blu and the agent family - rig them, move them, keep them on-model
- Sound - mix, music, and sound design that doesn't announce which library it came from
- Product capture that actually reads: screen recording, zoom paths, callouts, speed ramps
- A project structure anyone can open and navigate to the shot without asking you
- Per-platform delivery specs without recutting from scratch each time
You are
- 4+ years editing and animating - both, at depth. Not editing with a motion plugin bolted on
- Someone with a reel we'll watch to the end, containing animation you keyframed yourself
- Deep in After Effects - expressions, graph editor, rigging, shape layers
- Strong on a timeline in Premiere or Resolve, with sound treated as craft and not cleanup
- Tuned to weight and timing - you can argue why 12 frames reads better than 8
- Able to animate an illustrated character, not only type and shapes
- Fast. A cut lands in days, not on a six-week pipeline
- Bonus: Blender or Cinema 4D, and Rive or Lottie for interface motion
Stack you'll live in
Not a fit if
- You edit but don't animate, or animate but don't edit - this seat needs both in one person
- Your motion work is presets and plugins underneath
- You need a finished storyboard before you can start
- You've animated logos and type but never a character
