Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:
Creative Directors are expected to be multi-disciplinary creatives with extensive experience in design, art direction, copy, content capture, and experience managing creative professionals and creative projects.
As a Creative Director you will be directing digital creative projects from kickoff to completion. You will be ensuring that we follow global brand direction, style guides, and write in the brand voice. You will be focused on creating excellent, compelling, and effective creative executions that deliver against each brief.
Creative Directors are expected to lead, manage, and direct multiple creative teams working on multiple projects simultaneously. You are additionally expected to direct and coach the performance and creative output of individuals of varying disciplines including design, art direction/photography, messaging, video editing, animation, and cinematography.
You will work closely with other members of the studio, including other Creative Directors, creative teams, project managers, producers, and lead stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

LEADERSHIP
  • Must be an empathic and insightful leader capable of anticipating and understanding the needs, concerns, and goals of employees and stakeholders.
  • Directs the work of multiple creative teams working on between 6-12 projects at any given time.
  • Must support and implement cultural initiatives for both Studio A and digital activation in general.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and be comfortable having difficult conversations—both giving and receiving hard feedback.
  • Must solicit feedback from all levels within the studio to make informed decisions.
  • Manages, coaches, develops, and directs the work of project leads (Sr Manager Art Direction, Senior Designer, Senior Copywriter.)
  • Teaches their direct reports practical and managerial skills.
  • Contributes to resource management within the scope of their teams.

CREATIVE DIRECTION
  • Must direct, manage and lead the creation and delivery of design, art direction, video and messaging for campaigns, projects and toolkits from concept to execution.
  • Responsible for enforcing brand standards and providing critical feedback to their creative teams.
  • Accountable for the production of large-scale photoshoots and productions.
  • Provide prioritization between conflicting requests and resource constraints.
  • Looks for more ambitious strategic and creative opportunities between all briefs that are given to any of their teams.
  • Proposes said new opportunities to senior director or VP.
  • Connect with, stakeholders, and be the advocate for stakeholders in the context of concepts and creative decision making.
  • Anticipate stakeholder needs and proactively propose creative solutions to problems without being briefed.
  • Must have functional knowledge to support with execution of highest priority projects when needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to prioritize and delegate accordingly
  • In-depth knowledge of art direction and concept development with a digital-first approach.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of photography and videography techniques.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Figma and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Celtra or a willingness to learn.
  • Extensive experience working within sporting goods industry.
  • Experience working with brands developing creative solutions on a global level.
  • Experience in design industry and ability to predict future trends.
  • Experience developing successful concepts and working in collaborative multi-functional teams.
  • Fluent in English both verbally and written

Requisite Education and Experience:
  • A BA, MA, or BFA degree with focus on design, visual art, copywriting, and/or related areas.
  • 8+ years of experience in design, art direction and/or creative direction.
  • 3+ years of experience in leading a team with strong people management skills.

Studio A PDX launched in October 2021, and resides within the adidas America Portland HQ. We're an internal digital creative studio. We make (or adapt) just about every campaign you see on adidas.com, the app, the blog, and much of the email across North America. We’re busy!
