JOB SUMMARY:

Utah Hockey, a brand-new NHL franchise, is seeking a passionate and articulate Rinkside Reporter to join our TV broadcast team! Be the on-ice connection for our fans, capturing the energy, emotions, and breaking news from the heart of the action.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct live, on-ice interviews with players and coaches immediately following the periods and games to capture their reactions and insights while emotions are high.
  • Report live updates and breaking news from the bench area throughout the game, keeping viewers informed of key developments, injuries, and strategic adjustments.
  • Generate human interest stories and feature content throughout the season, highlighting player personalities, team dynamics, and the stories behind the game.
  • Participate in pre-game shows and provide on-ice updates and analysis, setting the stage for the upcoming matchup.
  • Contribute to post-game coverage by offering additional insights and analysis alongside studio analysts.
  • Attend and represent the team at press conferences and other media events, gathering information, and generating content for broadcasts and streaming platforms.
  • Work closely with the broadcast team to prepare for games, including researching opponents, players, and storylines.
  • Maintain a professional and engaging on-air presence, fostering a positive image for the team and the NHL.
  • Maintain a strong social media presence, interacting with fans and generating excitement for the team.
  • Participate in content captures and other features for the franchise’s streaming product.
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure a smooth and professional broadcast experience.
  • Host pre/intermission/post games as needed.
  • Travel with the team to road games.
  • Participate in promotional/sponsor activities and community events to build excitement for the team and connect with fans.
  • Protect the reputation of Smith Entertainment Group and its NHL franchise.
  • Exemplify the Smith Entertainment Group mission and values: transparency, all in, community obsessed, one team, and scrappy.
  • Accept other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in broadcast journalism or sports reporting (television preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of hockey, including the NHL rulebook, game strategy, and current players and teams.
  • Excellent communication and interviewing skills, with the ability to connect with people under pressure and elicit insightful responses.
  • Strong on-air presence with a clear, confident voice and the ability to think on their feet.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Comfort working near players and coaches on the ice.
  • A genuine passion for hockey and a desire to bring fans closer to the game.
  • Experience covering professional hockey or other major sports leagues.
  • Experience conducting live interviews on camera in a high-pressure environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally.
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate and assess.
  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time.
  • This person must be able to lift 20 lbs.
