Director, Physical Production, Features

 

A successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive, quick-thinking, flexible, able to pivot, when necessary, thorough, and able to juggle multiple responsibilities with a strong emphasis on organization and attention to detail at all times. They will work with producers, creative, writers, directors, senior production staff, and internal Blumhouse Department’s to ensure projects are delivered within schedule and budget requirements. This position will oversee productions from development through end of production. This is a demanding and fast-moving position that requires someone who is a proactive and positive thinker and able to exercise good judgment and initiative. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervising / Consulting on all aspects of physical production for feature length projects including but not limited to production planning, crew staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and physical production. 
  • Work closely with the Blumhouse internal departments including the Creative Team, Finance, Business & Legal Affairs, Post-Production, Marketing and Casting.
  • Hire Line Producers for budgets, schedules, cash flows, and location breakdowns
  • Negotiate and close HOD BTL deals
  • Lead production meetings in soft prep heading into prep/production
  • Review and give notes on all elements of production, including legal contracts for vendors, key crew, locations, and cost reports from production/production finance. 
  • Create initial budgets & schedules for projects and then handover to line producers once hired. 
  • Supervision of Line Producers, Production Managers, Supervisors, and Coordinators. 
  • Review Call sheets, Production Reports, Hot Costs, and Cost Reports.
  • Stay abreast of each state’s tax incentive credits and film crew availability and initiate tax incentive oversight analysis with Tax Consultants
  • Apply and submit tax incentive applications with State entities 
  • Complete/supervise guild signatory paperwork process for the DGA, IATSE, SAG, and TEAMSTERS
  • Initiate and evaluate insurance quotes and prepare for production binding
  • Assist in the onboarding of producers and production office staff to ensure all productions are functioning efficiently 
  • Work with the BH Production Dept. to update the Blumhouse Production Manual, studio distribution grid, and various production start-up documents.
  • Work with the BH Production Dept. to facilitate training on each production for the use of the digital “Scenechronize” platform

 

 

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree
  • 10 Years + experience with long form production executive management in the field or at a major studio, or on a network level for scripted series
  • Working general knowledge of Global Film Tax Incentives and Rebates
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment simultaneously supervising several projects in various points of production (from development through delivery)
  • Familiar with the current trends and workflows within the industry
  • Ability to respond after-hours for important, timely or urgent matters
  • Team-player who operates in a fast-paced team-oriented setting
  • Ability to be discrete and maintain confidential information
  • Understanding of how to prioritize and respond accordingly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Adept at anticipating potential issues, identifying problems, recommending and implementing solutions 
  • Travel both domestically and internationally when required.
