Job Description
The Associate Director advises the General Manager on strategic decisions affecting station operations, develops and implements policies for producing media and manages internal teams to prioritize tasks, scheduling, and resource allocation in support of production studio. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervise NJ PBS/NJ Spotlight News production, ingest & editing departments;
- Standardize operating procedures and workflows to ensure effective support for departmental needs;
- Work in concert with Senior Managing Editor, GM, and creative services to ID new technologies for efficient and cutting edge operations;
- Manage and oversee technology upgrade projects;
- Manage graphics department in support of NJ PBS/NJ Spotlight News graphics needs; coordinate camera team with Senior Managing Editor;
- Coordinate staff training, implementing professional development and training to ensure on-going growth and improvement;
- Troubleshoot technology issues; maintain preventative maintenance to streamline workflow and minimize downtime;
- Manage archived media and media supply chain;
- Provide support for any and all in-house production efforts;
- Provide on-call support for production operations;
- Serves as point person for NY technology support departments;
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least eight (8) years of experience in the live broadcast for TV and digital media environments, including supervisory experience in managing and directing teams of producers and editors;
- Proficiency with some or all of these technologies: editing and media management software, Adobe Premier/Photoshop/AfterEffects, news production automation, and workflow tools;
- Demonstrated knowledge in broadcast, IT, digital, and automation technologies;
- Exceptional organization, people, and critical thinking skills;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with inter-departmental colleagues and external parties.
This is a hybrid position. The incumbent will be expected work in the Newark, NJ offices and attend meetings. The WNET Group reserves the right to change and/or modify the hybrid schedule at its discretion.

The WNET Group offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary ranges are based on benchmarked nonprofit and industry related data provided by an outside consulting firm and are commensurate with skills and experience. The hiring salary range for this position is $95,000.00 - $102,000.00. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
