What You Will Do

We are seeking a Dimensional Designer Intern who will be responsible for developing tools, techniques, and systems that support the design and delivery process at Walt Disney Imagineering! We are seeking an upbeat and experienced model builder who is familiar with various types of model making such as physical dimensional models, architectural, miniatures, and digital 3D models as well as full-size mock-ups/prototypes. This individual must possess a good sense of design and have the ability to visualize and translate from two-dimensional information to three-dimensional product. The Dimensional Designer Intern will support others and develop a strong collaboration with related teams (Architecture, Production Design, Show Set Design, Special Effects, etc.). As an intern on the team, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist team wherever needed, applying basic model building skills

  • Take direction from more experienced Dimensional Designers to build physical models

  • Support team presentations with creating presentation boards and set-up of meeting spaces

  • Learn the art of three dimensional and digital model building

  • Confirm design collaborate with Creative, A&E and D&P fields

  • Partner with dimensional design team in model efforts

  • Support mock-up and staging efforts as required

  • Report on design and production progress to schedule and budget to senior team leadership

  • Communicate with more senior level Dimensional Designers for status updates of schedule progress, design inputs required, completion of design breakthroughs, etc.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Basic understanding of drawings

  • Handling of artwork for presentations including cutting of mats, printing, and dry mounting to boards

  • Skills in using hand and power tools

  • Ability to translate two dimensional information into three dimensional format

  • Appreciation for an integrated design experience with multiple disciplines

  • Valid Driver’s License Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Architectural model making background (digital and/or physical models)

  • Previous intern experience

  • Experience in theater, theme park design, production and installation

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, or must have graduated within the past 6 months from an accredited college/university, earning a degree majoring in theater, fine arts, environmental design, or related field

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.

  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

  • Provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Glendale, CA area

  • Have reliable transportation to/from work

  • The approximate dates of this internship are June 2024 through January 2025

The pay rate for this role in California is $26.50 per hour for undergraduate students and $27.50 per hour for graduate level students.
