The 6th Annual NYU Sports Film Festival, co-produced by the NYU Production Lab and the NYU Tisch Institute of Global Sport, is looking for students interested in joining the festival's team!

Position Descriptions

Media Manager: The Media Manager is responsible for producing all media assets for the festival, including the creation of original graphics, editing of short-form content and trailers, and generating engaging content for social media. This role works closely with the Marketing Manager to ensure visual consistency and alignment with promotional campaigns. They also maintain and organize the festival’s media library, ensuring all photo and video assets are readily available for marketing, PR, and archival purposes. In addition to media creation, the Media Manager assists with outreach for submissions and events, helping to ensure the festival’s visual presence accurately reflects its identity and quality. Video editing capabilities are a must.

Marketing Manager: The Marketing Manager leads the festival’s promotional strategy with the goal of driving submissions and maximizing attendance at screenings and events. They manage email outreach, maintain an active and engaging presence on Instagram and LinkedIn, and conceptualize and execute creative marketing activations throughout NYC to expand the festival’s footprint. This role involves collaborating with the Media Manager to create visually compelling materials, pitching targeted marketing strategies, and implementing promotional tactics that align with the festival’s branding. They also coordinate with the broader team to ensure all marketing aligns with programming and event goals. Graphic design capabilities are a plus.

Event Manager: The Event Manager is responsible for all logistical aspects of the festival’s live events which include screenings, honoree Q&As, speaker panels, the awards ceremony, and receptions. This role coordinates venue setup, catering, AV logistics, and decorative elements to create a polished and professional atmosphere. In addition, the Event Manager plays a major role in producing the Athletics Film Workshops in February, ensuring all operational elements are executed to a high standard. They also support outreach for submissions and events, working closely with other departments to ensure each festival touchpoint delivers an exceptional experience for attendees, participants, and partners.

Programmer: The Programmer is the lead curator for the festival’s official selection, watching every film submission and managing the selection process from start to finish. They guide the rest of the team in effective review practices, oversee mass communications with filmmakers, and coordinate the collection of all required film files. The role includes managing DCP file creation or assistance for each film, ensuring technical readiness for screenings. They also contribute to outreach efforts for submissions and events, representing the festival in communications with filmmakers and ensuring the programming process reflects the festival’s high standards.

About the Festival

Organization: The NYU Sports Film Festival (NYUSFF) is a sports-themed film festival that

was created to showcase and celebrate the powerful intersection of sports and film. The festival is student-run and co-produced by the NYU Production Lab, NYU Athletics, and the NYU Tisch Institute of Global Sport, with support from NYU Tisch. Submission categories include NYU Documentary, NYU Narrative, Open (non-NYU) Documentary, Open (non-NYU) Narrative, and more TBD.

History: NYUSFF launched virtually in 2021 with a televised special on SNY. By 2022, it had evolved into an in-person international event featuring industry panels and screenings. That year included guests from HBO Sports, NFL Films, ESPN, and Religion of Sports, along with appearances by actor Billy Crudup, director Reinaldo Marcus Green, and All American inspiration Spencer Paysinger. The SNY special aired multiple times and spotlighted four award-winning films.

In 2023, the festival screened 12 official selections at Village East by Angelika, featuring Q&As with gymnast Laurie Hernandez and director Jeremiah Zagar, while WME agents and acclaimed producers joined speaker panels. The 3rd Annual SNY Special featured four award-winning films that also screened at the Catalyst Content Festival and Lake Placid Film Festivals.

The 2024 edition marked major growth with 19 official selections over two nights at the Angelika Film Center. Highlights included a Q&A with Ted Lasso showrunner Bill Lawrence and panels with award-winning producers, athletes, and executives from CBS Sports, MSG, and more. NYUSFF debuted its first Pitch Contest, launched its Athletics Film Workshops, and showcased work from the inaugural Sports Documentary Course in collaboration with NYU Tisch Film & TV.

The 2025 festival continued the momentum with 12 official selections from, drawn from submissions representing 22 U.S. states and 17 nations. It returned to the Angelika for two nights in April and expanded the Athletics Film Workshops in February, doubling participation. The Sports Doc Course grew to 11 student films and the Pitch Contest featured 10 project ideas. Industry guests included representatives from MLB, NBC, FOX Sports, Overtime, and Amazon—solidifying NYUSFF’s reputation as a launchpad for the next generation of voices in sports media.
