5 On Your Side is looking for a Digital Desk Producer to help redefine the way local news is covered. We're looking for self-starting journalists with proven reputations who are eager to discover the next big story. Our ideal candidates want to take the assignment desk to the next level. Ideally, this candidate would have great people skills and the ability to develop great sources and contacts. They possess expert social media and writing skills to distribute information across 5 On Your Side platforms to keep our audiences informed and engaged.
Digital Desk Producers are leaders in our newsroom who urgently and aggressively cover breaking/developing stories. This position is for a person who is passionate about working in an audience first newsroom. This person is a part of a team that oversees the quality of 5 On Your Side's digital content efforts across all platforms.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate multiple crews for daily, enterprise or breaking stories
Make calls to news sources as needed, gaining appropriate and actionable information
Develop contacts and sources to be used in news gathering operations
Help provide editorial guidance and manage logistics to execute daily newsroom content
Participate in editorial meetings and conversations, including pitching stories
Work with digital managers, newsroom leaders and all producers to coordinate the development and distribution of content across all 5 On Your Side platforms
Monitor a variety of public safety radio systems and social media for breaking news
Distribute new and confirmed information along with news crew logistics to editorial team
Update published content as stories develop
Review and respond to news releases, news tips, emails, user generated content and social media messages to identify unique, local and engaging content
Do all necessary reporting efforts to turn information into digital content, such as make calls, get pictures or video to support a story, research and confirm information, etc.
Write and publish content to multiple platforms including web, app, social media, YouTube and streaming services
Manage all 5 On Your Side digital, social, audio and streaming accounts including sending push alerts, launching live streams, managing homepage layout, etc
Work with anchors and reporters to produce and publish content
Copy edit digital and social media content
Collaborate with other TEGNA stations, NBC affiliates and other partners to search trending content and publish compelling stories, photos and video from our corporate network across web, mobile and social media platforms
Requirements:
BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
Understanding the tenants of professional journalism
1-3 years of experience preferred
Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
Experience with content management systems
Skills in producing engaging, content-driven digital content and newscasts
Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
Basic image and video editing skills
Strong AP writing and copy editing skills
Strong understanding of digital and social media analytics and metrics
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekend and holiday shifts
