Portland is cementing itself as the epicenter of women’s sports, powered by a passionate fan base and a rich basketball culture. At Portland WNBA, we’re building more than a team, we’re creating a modern, inclusive, and community-driven organization from the ground up. With innovation, integrity, and excellence at our core, our mission is to set a new standard in women’s professional basketball - delivering excellence on the court, inspiring fans, and serving the city we call home.
As we prepare for our inaugural season, we’re looking for passionate, driven professionals to help shape the future of this franchise and the future of the game.
THE ROLE:

  • Serve as the team’s primary media contact, fostering relationships with local, national, and international outlets to generate meaningful coverage for the team, players, staff, and organization.
  • Work hand-in-hand with an external PR agency to manage brand launch, campaign execution, announcements, events, and media outreach.
  • Craft compelling press materials, talking points, executive messaging, and brand narratives that reflect our voice, values, and vision.
  • Contribute to brand and partnership campaigns with earned media strategies that elevate visibility and deepen community and fan connection.
  • Partner with internal teams to develop and execute multi-channel communications strategies across earned, social, experiential, and influencer marketing.
  • Support visibility and thought leadership opportunities for players, coaches, and front office executives through media training, placements, and public speaking moments.
  • Maintain a forward-looking PR calendar that aligns with team’s marketing, community, and partnership priorities.

WHAT IT TAKES:
  • 6-8 years of relevant professional experience in communications, public relations, or media strategy (sports or women’s basketball experience strongly preferred).
  • Proven success in an in-house communications role, ideally within a major league sports team or culturally relevant brand.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and messaging development skills across all forms of communication.
  • Strong understanding of digital and traditional media landscapes, as well as basketball and influencer culture.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment effectively.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and home game days.

BENEFITS:
  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives, Salary Range $115,000 - $125,000
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness programs
