Job Description

Department: Content Production

Location: Los Angeles

Description

Day One Agency—Fast Company’s #1 on the Most Innovative list—is hiring!

We’re looking for a Freelance VP, Studio Production to join our growing team. This role is critical to the operational backbone of our work—developing, scaling, and evolving our internal studio production capabilities across creative formats. You will drive excellence, foster innovation, and ensure we deliver culturally resonant work with precision and impact.

You’ll guide the way in crafting a studio model that balances creative ambition with operational rigor, implementing scalable workflows that support fast-turn digital content as well as larger, integrated campaigns. With a strategic mind and a builder’s instinct, you’ll help shape the future of how we produce—internally and with partners—while supporting and advising internal teams as a subject-matter expert and collaborating across departments to bring big ideas to life.
This role requires deep production expertise across digital, social, broadcast, experiential, and emerging platforms. You’ll work in close partnership with Creative, Brand, and Creators & Casting, as well as with external vendors, freelancers, and post-production houses. If you’re excited by building what’s next in creative production and leading with clarity, vision, and heart, this role is for you.

This position is a Freelance role, which requires a hybrid work schedule and is available only in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

As the Freelance VP, Studio Production, you’ll guide the operational evolution of the studio with equal parts creative empathy and business acumen. You’ll be responsible for advising on vision-setting for the studio function, optimizing systems, and mentoring talent—all while ensuring we deliver impactful work on time and on budget.

You’ll:
  • Consult on the development and scaling of a production model that blends creativity, speed, and strategic process, including operational workflows for project scoping, briefs, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Group SVP, Production and EP, driving workflow excellence, resource forecasting, and team development.
  • Collaborate on production resource planning in partnership with internal leads and develop scalable strategies that support business growth.
  • Implement systems for project tracking, cost control, markup, asset delivery, vendor management, and rights/usage compliance, in alignment with finance and legal teams.
  • Establish best practices for hybrid production models that balance internal and external partnerships.
  • Introduce production tools and technologies that enhance visibility, accountability, and creative execution—across formats from fast-turn social to large-scale campaigns.
  • Recommend performance benchmarks and delivery improvements for project success (speed, quality, cost) and optimize delivery outcomes across the studio.
  • Champion production as a strategic partner in the creative process, translating big ideas into executable, high-quality outputs without compromising creative ambition.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing studio culture rooted in mentorship, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic oversight to a team of producers, post-producers, and support staff, as needed.
  • Partner across departments to support early-stage scoping and resourcing decisions.
  • Identify and cultivate external partnerships with production talent, post houses, and emerging platforms (e.g., virtual production, AI workflows) to future-proof the studio.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in production leadership roles within creative agencies, studios, or production companies.
  • 4+ years leading studio teams and overseeing multi-format campaigns.
  • Proven experience building scalable systems that improve delivery speed, efficiency, and creative excellence.
  • Deep fluency in digital, social, broadcast, experiential, and emerging media production.
  • Experience managing hybrid workflows, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Financial fluency in budgeting, forecasting, vendor negotiations, and markup strategies.
  • Deep understanding of legal, rights management, and usage compliance in creative production.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator with a decisive and empathetic leadership style.
  • Passion for emerging technologies and production innovation, including virtual production and AI tools.
  • A builder’s mindset: entrepreneurial, resourceful, and eager to shape what’s next.
Major Bonus If You
  • Have experience working at creative communication agencies.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The company does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of work visas.
