Job Description
Summary
The Dailies Colorist supports professional colorists, finishing teams, and production partners across film, television, and commercial post-production. This role is responsible for preparing and organizing camera media, performing dailies color grading, creating editorial and viewing media, conducting technical quality control, and delivering media according to project specifications. The Dailies Colorist works closely with the Finishing Colorist and Director of Photography to support and maintain the creative look of each project while following established technical and production workflows.
Primary Responsibilities
- Log and sync camera masters according to established project workflows.
- Grade shots to support the creative look and visual direction of the project.
- Work closely with the Finishing Colorist and Director of Photography to achieve and maintain the established visual look of the project.
- Create editorial and viewing media according to project specifications and established workflows.
- Perform QC of editorial and viewing media to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
- Upload and deliver all media according to project specifications and established delivery procedures.
- Maintain accurate and organized project media and associated files throughout the dailies workflow.
- Identify and communicate technical or workflow issues to the appropriate team members for resolution.
- Manage assigned dailies tasks and deliverables within established production schedules and deadlines.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist the Finishing Colorist and production team with project preparation and media management as needed.
- Support the organization and maintenance of project materials and associated documentation.
- Perform routine troubleshooting of media and workflow issues within established procedures and escalate issues when additional technical or creative direction is required.
- Collaborate with internal team members and production partners to support efficient project workflows.
- Perform other related duties in support of the dailies and finishing workflow as assigned.
Required Qualifications (Must Have)
- 2+ years of experience working in television or film dailies.
- Experience with Colorfront Express Dailies, Avid Media Composer, and DaVinci Resolve.
- Working knowledge of video file formats, codecs, resolutions, frame rates, and delivery standards.
- Ability to follow established technical, creative, and production workflows accurately and consistently.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Finishing Colorists, Directors of Photography, production teams, and other internal and external partners.
- Ability to identify and communicate technical or workflow issues in a timely manner.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work extended hours with little or short notice, as needed.
- Ability to work weekends, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- BA/BS degree in an applicable field.
- Experience working directly with Directors of Photography, Finishing Colorists, or other creative stakeholders.
- Experience supporting multiple projects or dailies workflows simultaneously.
- Familiarity with professional digital cinema and post-production workflows.
