Founding Filmmaker / Creative Producer

Tono HealthNew York, NYPosted

Job Description

About the company

Tono is building the future of specialty medicine, and transforming patients’ lives along the way.

We work on some of the hardest problems in medicine.

Tono Health is the AI-native specialty dermatology platform. We connect dermatologists and leading subspecialists with the patients who need them across 33+ states, in partnership with leading health systems and cancer centers.

We built our own AI-powered dermatology EMR and practice-management platform to run it. Our programs span medical dermatology, complex immunology including hidradenitis suppurativa, supportive oncodermatology, and hair and cosmetic dermatology from our flagship clinic in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

Our team comes from companies including Apple, Twitter, and Amazon. Our physicians have trained and practiced at Columbia, Einstein, Harvard, Mount Sinai, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and other leading medical institutions.

Together, we’re building at the intersection of world-class medicine and AI-native engineering.

We’re backed by leading investors including Village Global, HOF Capital, and Oncology Ventures.

The Role

We are looking for a Founding Filmmaker / Creative Producer to build the visual and storytelling language of Tono from the ground up. Cinematic.

This is not a traditional healthcare marketing role.

You will have unusual access to our physicians, patients, clinics, technology, and team, and the creative freedom to find the stories inside them.

Some films may follow a patient who has spent years living with a difficult disease and the moment they finally reach the right specialist.

Some may explore why a physician has devoted their life to solving one of medicine’s hardest problems.

Some may follow a cancer patient fighting to stay on treatment.

Some may capture the quiet intensity of an appointment as a physician thinks through a difficult case.

Some may show, almost invisibly, how AI is changing what a doctor can understand and accomplish in that room.

Some may capture healing. Recovery. Confidence returning. Someone getting their life back.

And some stories we haven’t imagined yet.

We don’t want to make corporate videos.

We want to make work that people choose to watch, remember, and act on, without sacrificing the humanity or craft of the story.

That might mean a cinematic six-minute patient film. A 60-second physician story. A short campaign that brings someone with severe disease into care. A film that helps recruit an extraordinary doctor. A piece that makes a health-system leader understand Tono in two minutes.

The medium and length can change. The standard cannot. Work that is cinematic. Intimate. Human. Beautiful. Sometimes intense. Always truthful.

What You'll Do

  • Capture the magic of medicine — the humanity, connection, intensity, healing, and transformation that happen between patients and physicians
  • Find extraordinary stories unfolding across Tono’s patients, physicians, clinics, partners, and technology
  • Spend time inside medicine and recognize moments others would miss
  • Direct intimate, documentary-style interviews
  • Shoot beautiful, cinematic footage in clinical and real-world settings
  • Edit longer-form films with exceptional narrative structure, pacing, sound, and restraint
  • Create films about patients, physicians, complex disease, new therapies, technology, and the changing practice of medicine
  • Understand the audience and objective behind each story — whether the goal is to move a patient, recruit a physician, win a partner, build the Tono brand, or simply make something worth watching
  • Translate flagship storytelling into high-performing short-form, campaign, website, and social creative without making it feel like advertising
  • Turn major shoots into a broader library of films, cutdowns, photography, and creative assets
  • Establish a distinctive visual and storytelling language for Tono
  • Create physician portraits, patient stories, recruiting films, partnership stories, and brand films
  • Capture photography and video for our website, communications, campaigns, and physical spaces
  • Develop original treatments and creative concepts rather than simply executing briefs
  • Earn the trust of patients and physicians and help people be themselves on camera
  • Bring in cinematographers, sound engineers, colorists, composers, and other specialists when a story warrants it
  • Move quickly and resourcefully — knowing when a story deserves a larger production and when the best answer is to pick up a camera and make something
  • Over time, help build a larger editorial and filmmaking platform around the future of medicine

Who we are looking for

You might be an independent documentary filmmaker, director/editor, cinematographer, journalist, branded-documentary filmmaker, or producer who wants to take ownership of an entire creative world.

You should have:

  • Exceptional visual taste
  • A portfolio that demonstrates powerful human storytelling
  • Strong documentary interviewing instincts
  • The ability to find the emotional center of a story
  • Excellent shooting and editing skills
  • A sophisticated understanding of pacing, sound, music, and narrative
  • The judgment to know when less is more
  • The resourcefulness to create exceptional work without requiring a large production crew
  • The empathy and maturity to work with people during vulnerable moments in their lives
  • Deep curiosity about medicine, science, technology, and people
  • High standards for your craft
  • The desire to pioneer something rather than inherit a playbook
  • The ambition to make work that matters

Experience in healthcare is not required.

We are particularly interested in people coming from documentary film, branded entertainment, commercial filmmaking, journalism, editorial video, independent filmmaking, or exceptional in-house creative teams who want to bring a fundamentally different creative standard to medicine.

What this is not

This is not a social media manager position.

It is not a high-volume content-production job.

It is not a corporate video role.

And it is not a job where every story begins with a marketing brief.

We want someone who can walk into a room, understand what actually matters, and find the film inside it.
