The Hollywood Pantages Theatre seeks a Head of Hair and Makeup Department

Broadway in Hollywood is in search of a highly skilled, experienced Head of Hair and Makeup to join our thriving team at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, one of Los Angeles' leading homes for legitimate theatre. As the Head of Hair and Makeup, you will be instrumental in the continuing success of the Touring Productions at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre.

Touring Production Environment

The Hollywood Pantages Theatre operates as a roadhouse presenting touring productions. The successful candidate must be comfortable collaborating with touring companies, touring department heads, and touring employees, and be able to adapt to the requirements and working practices of each incoming production.

REPORTING TO: Technical Director

WORK SCHEDULE: Regularly 8 shows per week plus show work calls and venue maintenance calls as needed. Schedule set by the touring show and Technical Director.

COMPENSATION: $41 per hour

Primary Job Responsibilities

Oversee the Hair and Makeup Department for all incoming productions. Responsible for coordinating and maintaining all hair, wig, and makeup elements from production load-in through load-out.
Manage, supervise, and schedule Hair and Makeup department crew as required.
Ensure all wigs, hairpieces, and specialized makeup elements are properly styled, cleaned, maintained, and show-ready throughout the run of each production.
Work closely with touring Hair and Makeup Supervisors to establish production requirements and ensure the needs of each touring production are met.
Coordinate crew assignments, tracks, and department needs for rehearsals and performances.
Submit weekly payroll and sign-in sheets to the Technical Director.
Attend rehearsals, training sessions, and production calls as required.
Maintain appropriate Hair and Makeup department supplies, equipment, and work areas.
Comply with the Theatre’s Health and Safety requirements and all other applicable policies and procedures.

Skills & Qualifications Required

Previous experience as a Head of Hair and Makeup, Department Head, or in a comparable leadership position.
Experience managing and supervising run crews, and experience working in a union environment is preferred.
Cosmetology license preferred.
Strong hair styling skills and experience working with a variety of hair types and textures.
Demonstrated professional knowledge of hair styling, wigs, wig preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and repair.
Experience working with human hair and synthetic wigs, lace fronts, hair extensions, hairpieces, facial hair, and related professional hair and wig tools.
Extensive experience with wig and hair changes in live performance or theatrical environments.
Strong creative judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in a professional environment.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate, communicate effectively, and resolve conflicts.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with performers, touring personnel, local crew, and a wide variety of personalities.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to work a flexible theatrical schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, rehearsals, and extended performance schedules as required.
