Role Overview

The Production & Business Development Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing best-in-class live productions for a discerning client base while serving as the primary orchestrator of new business intake and proposal development.

This role sits at the center of production execution, client leadership, and commercial growth. In addition to leading select high-touch productions, the Director will field new business inquiries, manage RFP processes, guide proposal strategy, and ensure alignment between design, production, finance, and executive leadership.

Approximately 25–50% of the role is dedicated to business development and proposal leadership, with the remainder focused on production oversight and strategic internal coordination.

This is a highly cross-functional role requiring operational rigor, commercial instinct, and the ability to move seamlessly between creative development and execution.

Key Responsibilities

New Business & Opportunity Leadership

  • Field and evaluate all inbound new business inquiries from prospective clients
  • Serve as lead internal quarterback for RFP and partial-RFP processes
  • Liaise between design, production, and executive leadership to determine overall proposal direction
  • Validate strategic direction with Partners and provide updates throughout the proposal process
  • Manage client interactions and presentations throughout pitch cycles
  • Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and cultivate new opportunities
  • Conduct competitive analysis on brands and creative positioning to inform proposal strategy

Proposal Development & Strategy

  • Oversee development of pitch decks, including:
  • Strategic outlines
  • Creative direction and design references (in collaboration with Design)
  • Location recommendations
  • Timelines and production roadmaps
  • Preliminary budgets (in collaboration with Production)
  • Ensure proposals align with company positioning, operational capacity, and profitability goals
  • Guide transitions from proposal to awarded project

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Work closely with Finance on MSAs, SOWs, invoicing structures, and follow-up
  • Liaise with client procurement teams to navigate vendor onboarding and contracting requirements
  • Support deal structuring and commercial negotiations alongside Partners
  • Maintain visibility into pipeline health and revenue forecasting

Production Leadership

  • Provide ongoing senior production management for select projects
  • Oversee planning and execution of complex, high-touch live productions
  • Ensure budgets, timelines, staffing, and vendor coordination are aligned with expectations
  • Identify and mitigate risks in fast-moving production environments
  • Conduct post-project evaluations to improve systems and profitability

Vendor, Resource & Brand Development

  • Source and evaluate new vendors, creatives, and production resources
  • Help strengthen the company’s network of collaborators and strategic partners
  • Assist in maintaining and refining company brand materials, including website, social media, and brand decks

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8–12+ years of experience in live event production, experiential, entertainment, or related fields
  • Proven experience leading complex, high-end live productions
  • Demonstrated success managing RFP processes and proposal development
  • Strong financial literacy and experience collaborating on budgets and commercial terms
  • Experience interfacing with procurement teams and structured client environments
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Highly organized, strategic, and comfortable operating at both detailed and executive levels
  • Based in New York and comfortable working full-time in-office

Compensation

  • Base salary: $115,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience
  • Bonus: Goal-based performance bonuses tied to production delivery and business development outcomes
  • Compensation expected to grow with expanded impact and company scale
