The Opportunity
This is a hands-on analytical role on our royalty operations team. You will process record label royalties for live client catalogs, support royalty audit engagements that recover real money for labels and artists, and help build catalog valuation models used in acquisition, sale, and financing decisions.
This is not an administrative role. You will work directly in client data, and your analysis will appear in client-facing statements, audit findings, and valuation reports. Training and mentorship are provided; ownership is expected. The position is fully remote.
Responsibilities
Record Label Royalty Processing (approx. 50%)
• Process and reconcile record royalty statements — distributor and DSP sales and streaming data, physical sales, and licensing income
• Maintain artist and producer royalty accounts: advances, recoupment balances, reserves and reserve liquidations, and cross-collateralization where applicable
• Apply contractual royalty rates and deal terms accurately — royalty escalations, net receipts vs. retail-basis calculations, packaging and other deductions, deduction caps, free goods, and territory splits
• Match income to recordings and releases; research and clear unmatched, misallocated, and suspense income
• Prepare artist, producer, and client royalty statements for review; support payment runs through Trolley and related platforms
• Track and validate recording metadata — ISRC, UPC, label copy, and release data — across distributors and DSPs
Royalty Audits (approx. 30%)
• Consolidate and normalize royalty statements across streaming, download, physical, sync, and licensing income streams
• Review distribution, label, and artist agreements to confirm compliance with stated rates, escalations, deduction caps, and payment terms
• Test for rate discrepancies, missing income streams, territory and DSP coverage gaps, UGC misclassification, unreported licensing income, improper deductions, and reserve practices
• Verify ISRC, UPC, territory, and DSP coverage against distribution and consumption data
• Quantify exposure and build audit schedules that support each finding with source documentation
• Draft sections of audit findings reports for review by the audit lead
Catalog Valuation (approx. 20%)
• Compile and normalize historical earnings from distributor, DSP, licensing, and neighboring rights statements
• Isolate recurring versus one-time income; identify sync spikes, viral events, catalog reissues, and other non-durable revenue
• Support DCF and multiple-based valuation models, including decay curves, discount rates, and net income normalization
• Assemble comparable-transaction analysis and document valuation assumptions defensibly
• Build exhibits and supporting schedules for buyer-facing and seller-facing valuation reports
• Maintain version control and organized project files across concurrent engagements
Requirements
• 2–4 years of experience in record label royalty accounting, royalty processing, music industry finance, audit, or financial analysis
• Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Music Industry, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field
• Hands-on experience reading and reconciling record royalty statements, distributor reporting, or DSP sales data
• Advanced Excel / Google Sheets: pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, data cleaning, and comfort working through large, messy datasets
• Working knowledge of Claude. RSC uses Claude daily for royalty analysis, reporting, research, and client communications — comfort with Claude and similar AI tools is required, not a bonus
• Working knowledge of how record royalties flow — distribution deals, artist and producer royalties, advances and recoupment, reserves, and digital income streams
• Strong written communication — findings, schedules, and client-facing summaries must be clean, direct, and defensible
• Exceptional attention to detail, with the discipline to reconcile to the penny and document what you did
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment, manage multiple open items, and hit deadlines without hand-holding
• Discretion with confidential client, artist, and financial information
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with royalty platforms — Record Maestro, Reprtoir, Tone, Revelator, Curve, Vistex, or comparable
• Prior royalty audit experience on behalf of labels, artists, or producers
• Exposure to catalog M&A, master acquisitions, or financing diligence
• Familiarity with international royalty collection and neighboring rights societies
• QuickBooks, Power Query, or SQL exposure
