THE ROLE:
The Senior Accountant, Controller oversees all accounting functions and operations. Responsible for supervising the daily activity and reviewing the work product of the company's outsourced accounting and FP&A teams and for developing, implementing, and monitoring effective policies and procedures to ensure high quality and efficient accounting and reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business & Strategic Analysis
Monitor new business developments across the Group (Talent Management, Education and Studio Services) and build and update financial models to assess and analyze them.
Develop ad-hoc projections for portfolios and other business components to inform decision making and business planning.
Partner with c-suite, talent and teams to identify new revenue opportunities.
Act as a financial thought leader to the CEO.
Review employee performance based on revenue metrics to help guide division directors in their management.
Forecasting, Budgeting, & Reporting
Assist with the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting process. Identify trends and variance to budgeted performance.
Assist in developing the company's annual budget at a company, department, and strategic initiative/project level.
Assess the accuracy and efficacy of existing financial models.
Work with the outside CPA firm in creating annual financial reports and tax returns.
Business Support
Develop and prepare monthly / quarterly and annual presentations.
Attend and actively participate in meetings, confidently and professionally provide insight and clarification into data presented.
Financial Operations
Maintain the General Ledger and manage month-end and year-end closure. Strive for a reduced number of days to complete, improve precision, transparency, and controls.
Works with respective teams on forecasting processes and analyses.
Troubleshoot any and all accounting issues, and make corrections.
Establish relations with banks and other financial institutions.
Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies and correspond accordingly.
Manage contract revenue database, ensuring that contract terms are accurately incorporated into models and that revenues are closely recorded, tracked, and reconciled.
Participate in the Year End Financial Statements, including preparation and review of schedules.
Control expenses to ensure adherence to budget.
Review all new/amended contract agreements and update models accordingly.
Assist in the implementation and management of financial planning software and other tools and resources, as required.
Work on ad hoc financial projects.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Duties are both in a supervisory and controlling position. In this position, accountability is in checking for errors from self and others involved in the accounting processes. Making corrections when necessary. Constant cross & check.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
4-7 years of experience working in an Accounting and/or finance role. Industry experience is preferred, but not required. CPA license is a plus but not a requirement. Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Finance, Accounting or related field.
LANGUAGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Capacity to work across departments and interact with employees who range from the junior to executive level via written and spoken methods. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business practices. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts to ensure financial books are accurate. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to go deep into the details, then compile key information for business stakeholders. Identify financial variances or unusual trends which will then require further investigation. Ability to take financial trends and create models.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Accounting software
Proficient knowledge of CRM reporting in Hubspot (or similar)
Payroll Systems, specifically QBO and ADP
Advanced knowledge of Google Workspace Tools, including Gemini
Zoom, Slack, etc.
