Who We Are Seeking

The Unreal Technical Artist acts as a bridge between the artistic and technical teams, ensuring that mobile experiences achieve high visual fidelity while maintaining optimal performance. This role combines expertise in Unreal, VR and technical problem-solving to support the creation of a technical but beautiful PCVR over streaming demo.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with a Unreal developer to work with open source demos and modify to create interaction and showcase technical features
  • Optimize memory usage and performance while preserving artistic integrity
  • Troubleshoot issues in production workflows
  • Understanding of animation techniques and implementation for real-time platforms
  • Proficiency and understanding of sculpting, modeling and texturing
  • Jump into creation programs when needed to create content
  • Develop tools, scripts, and shaders tailored for VR production
  • Identify and implement optimizations in the art pipeline to improve efficiency
  • Create benchmarks to monitor performance of the PCVR demo on a reference headset
  • Optimize assets (e.g., textures, models) for real-time rendering without sacrificing quality
  • Implement technical art features such as shaders, particle systems, and visual effects
  • Maintain clear technical documentation for tools, workflows, and processes
  • Share best practices with the developer to improve efficiency

What You Will Need to be Successful

  • Proficiency in Unreal3D, particularly for VR platforms like Quest 3
  • Experience with cutting edge Unreal techniques such as the scriptable render pipeline and the shader graph
  • Strong knowledge of C# programming and shader development
  • Experience optimizing assets for performance (e.g., polygon counts, texture compression)
  • Understanding of VR platform limitations (e.g., memory constraints, on-board vs tethered rendering capabilities)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with real-time rendering techniques
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git or Perforce
  • Ability to create efficient workflows using scripting languages like Python or MEL

Compensation

The hourly range for this role is $85.00 to $120.00 and applies only to jobs performed in Culver City, California. This range represents the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Please note that we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
