Description

MPLC are the legal way to show movies and TV in public or commercial spaces across the globe. Our business has been running for 30 years and we are the number one trusted partner to studios and producers for public performance licensing. We work with every major Hollywood studio and hundreds of independents, and we work hard to educate organizations about the importance of respecting copyright. MPLC is a key player in the entertainment and intellectual property ecosystem.
Our aim is to allow companies to use great movie and programming content while ensuring that content creators get paid fairly for their work.
We are on a truly exciting journey as a company. We’re growing quickly, investing in our teams, and we have bold plans to make 2025 our best year ever. As part of our growth, we are hiring for a Senior Legal Counsel – Studio & Corporate Affairs to support our global legal operations and studio partnerships.

The job in two bullet points:
  • Act as MPLC’s lead legal advisor on public performance rights, intellectual property, and studio licensing—you’ll negotiate and manage high-value agreements with major studios and content providers, ensuring legal compliance and strategic alignment across our global operations.
  • Oversee a broad range of corporate legal matters—from contract drafting and compliance to governance and international regulatory alignment, you’ll play a critical role in supporting MPLC’s business growth and legal integrity worldwide.
If you need a bit more information…
The Senior Legal Counsel will support both studio-related and corporate legal matters across MPLC’s U.S. and international business. Reporting jointly to the Global Head of Studio Relations and the Chief Financial Officer, this role will be a key legal voice within MPLC, with particular focus on copyright, public performance rights, and corporate legal matters. The role requires demonstrated expertise in MPA studio-facing legal work and intellectual property, with a strong emphasis on public performance rights under copyright law. Candidates should be commercially pragmatic and possess strong judgment, particularly when balancing legal risk with business priorities. Candidates with substantial international experience will be prioritized, as this role supports MPLC’s global operations.

You will love this job if...

  • You bring strong commercial judgment and know how to balance legal risk with business needs.
  • With deep expertise in U.S. and international copyright and IP law, you’re confident navigating complex legal frameworks.
  • Your background includes corporate governance and hands-on experience managing legal entities.
  • Tackling complex legal matters independently comes naturally to you, and you approach challenges with pragmatism.
  • Communication is one of your strengths—you write and negotiate contracts with clarity and precision.
  • You thrive in collaborative environments, adapt easily to change, and make thoughtful, well-informed decisions.

Let's be honest!

At MPLC we are passionate about what we do and every single role we hire for contributes to our growth as a business. We’re not content with standing still—we constantly want to be bettering ourselves and doing things differently, and we want that from the people we hire as well.
This role will challenge you to navigate complex legal landscapes, support high-stakes negotiations, and support a growing international business. You’ll need to be confident, detail-oriented, and ready to take ownership of critical legal functions. You’ll also need to be comfortable working across time zones and legal systems, and balancing legal risk with business priorities.
