The Pittsburgh Penguins are seeking an experienced radio producer to craft the sound and delivery of the Penguins Radio Network. The Penguins Radio Network is the largest in the NHL with 40 affiliate stations, including flagship station WXDX-FM in Pittsburgh. Qualified candidates must be able to execute all technical aspects of radio production including sound editing, sound production and commercial production. The producer oversees a small group of engineers and board operations that perform tasks in a variety of locations, including iHeart Media Studios in Pittsburgh, PPG Paints Arena, visiting arenas around the National Hockey League, as well as remote broadcast locations as determined by the Penguins. Candidates must have knowledge of satellite distribution services to deliver the Penguins Radio broadcast to affiliate stations. The producer will also oversee relations with technical contacts at all Penguins Radio Network affiliate stations and is always prepared to troubleshoot potential technical issues from any broadcast location.

This position reports to the Penguins Radio Network leadership group, consisting of the Chief Communications Officer, VP of Marketing and the Executive Director of Partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Produce and deliver the best audio broadcast of all Pittsburgh Penguins home and away game broadcasts during the preseason, regular season and postseason, as well as any special circumstances.
- Direct and monitor the team’s radio broadcast programming and activities in conformance with Federal Communication Commission (“FCC”) rules and regulations, team policies and applicable state and local laws.
- Plan and oversee all on-air programming and production in coordination with The Radio Network leadership team.
- Develop compelling programming for pre-game, intermissions and post-game shows in coordination with the Radio Network leadership group and the Penguins Radio Network broadcast team.
- Oversee all aspects of additional Penguins Radio Network programming including a weekly Saturday morning audio magazine show and a weekly Head Coach and General Manager’s show.
- Produce and distribute 60 second game recaps in a timely manner to be made available to all Penguins Radio broadcast affiliates.
- Work with the Penguins Radio Network leadership group on the overall sound of the Penguins Radio broadcast, including pre-production of audio commercials, audio sounders and rejoins, commercial billboard messages, team marketing messages, music and theming that aligns with the Penguins brand.
- Have a working knowledge of production software programs including Audacity, Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, as well as other audio production and editing tools.
- Work directly with production and programming professionals at iHeart Media to have a working knowledge of iHeart’s software programs, NexGen board operating system and production systems.
- Work with the Penguins, NHL and iHeart Media internet audio streaming services to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of all Penguins audio programming over the team’s website and Penguins mobile app.
- Develop and have a working knowledge of the satellite distribution services at iHeart Media and other third-party satellite providers to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of Penguins Radio Network programming to all affiliate stations.
- Oversee relations and communications with audio engineers and subcontractors in all 32 NHL Market places. These engineers work directly in the broadcast booth.
- Work with Penguins Radio broadcasters to schedule commercials and other audio productions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Radio Network leadership group.
Qualifications
- Qualified candidates should have a minimum of four (4) years of full-time audio production experience. Candidates must have a working knowledge of various audio editing software tools as well as expert knowledge in the distribution of audio programming to a variety of affiliate stations in five states. The Penguins Radio Network is the #1 rated radio broadcast in the NHL, and candidates should be experts in all aspects of radio production, radio signal distribution, remote broadcast solutions, internet audio streaming, commercial production, satellite services and more. Experience as a voice over talent is preferred but not required. Candidates should be exceptional problem solvers prepared with a variety of solutions to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of the Penguins Radio Network to our listeners. Additionally, candidates should have extensive knowledge of NHL gameplay. Candidates should be excellent communicators who can oversee multiple freelance engineers and producers and work closely with Penguins Radio broadcasters on a variety of duties.
- Qualified candidates should have a four-year bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, radio production or another appropriate field of study.
