Job Description:

We are seeking talented Senior or Lead VFX/lighting Artists to join our team and play a crucial role in shaping the visual effects of our game. You will be responsible for overseeing and executing a wide range of visuals that bring combat in immersive and visually stunning game environments to life.

Responsibilities:

Mentor or lead and manage a team of artists, providing direction, guidance, and feedback.
Collaborate closely with the Art Director and other leads, directors and team members to ensure consistent and high-quality visual effects.
Create and implement a wide variety of VFX assets primarily for spell casting, including magical explosions, fire, smoke, and other mystical effects.
Work with shaders and materials to achieve the desired visual effects.
String understanding of shader creation and optimization in Unreal Engine.
Optimize VFX assets for performance while maintaining artistic integrity.
Contribute to the development of visual style guides and ensure VFX adhere to them.
Participate in the creative process, providing ideas and solutions to artistic challenges.
Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in VFX techniques.

Requirements:

Extensive experience in VFX production for games, including particle systems, fluid simulations, and dynamic effects.
Proficiency in industry-standard VFX software (e.g. Houdini, Embergen or equivalent).
Strong understanding of PBR workflows and material creation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Solid understanding of game development pipelines and workflows.
Portfolio showcasing a diverse range of VFX skills and styles.

Bonus Qualifications:

Solid understanding of Unreal Engine 5.
Passion for games, game development and fantasy/sci-fi genres.
Previous experience in VFX and/or artistic leadership roles.
Knowledge of technical art techniques for optimizing VFX assets.
Previous experience working on large-scale projects.
Strong knowledge of C++ and/or glsl
Strong knowledge of generating Substance Designer materials for use inside of Unreal Engine

Note: this is initially an unpaid position as we work towards securing investment/funding and/or publishing partners. The plan is for this to convert to a paid position, once we are sufficiently funded, with an opportunity for equity and/or profit sharing depending on your level of effort, contributions and experience.
