Dreamscape Learn (DSL) is a collaborative venture between Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University, merging the most advanced experiential pedagogy with the entertainment industry’s best cinematic storytelling to deliver unique virtual reality (VR) and 2D labs and full course experiences which are demonstrably efficacious, readily scalable and emotionally engaging. These VR labs combine the emotional power of Hollywood storytelling, the visceral excitement of theme park rides, and an extraordinary mix of full body tracking and interactivity to create stories and worlds that push the limits of what is possible in virtual reality.
We’re seeking a creative, self-motivated, and collaborative 3D Generalist Artist with VFX experience with exceptional work ethic and time management skills. This opportunity could be an ideal fit if you possess a strong passion for creating and delivering cutting-edge educational products and solutions, encompassing virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Under general direction, the 3D Generalist Artist will take on a variety of tasks, both independently and in collaboration with other artists, game developers, project leads, and other stakeholders, using emerging technology tools and artificial intelligence to create new story-driven experiences. This individual will use industry standard software tools to create computerized animations.
For the first three months, this position may occasionally be required to travel to Los Angeles up to 5 days per week for comprehensive training facilitated by the expert LA Dreamscape Learn team. These business trips will be at ASU's expense subject to travel policies and procedures found here.
Essential Duties
- Experience of 3+ years in production using game engines to create real-time VFX with a supporting body of work.
- Comprehensive understanding of technical considerations for VFX, including rendering efficiency considerations.
- Model and texture game assets (objects and/or characters), and to integrate them into the game engine.
- Responsible for creating new visual effect templates for the team to store in its library.
- A general understanding of animation/modeling/texturing/rigging and instancing pipelines.
- Excellent sense of scale, timing, detail, form, texture and color.
- Ability to technically deconstruct visual effects from other game and film references.
- A willingness to challenge yourself and to find solutions to those challenges.
- Solid understanding of shader and texture creation and application.
- Experience in Houdini, including digital assets for Houdini Engine in Unity/Unreal/Maya.
- Able to meet production targets, adhere to strict deadlines and other restrictions.
- Collaborate with others to come up with creative solutions, identify constraints, and to provide feasibility recommendations.
- Create the highest quality real-time visual and particle effects, both in appearance and performance, while adhering to the project’s artistic vision.
- Collaborate closely with the design, animation and art teams to create exciting, eye-catching and realistic effects that take the experience to the next level.
- Offer creative solutions to design challenges.
- Responsible for a variety of aspects of real-time VFX production, from design, creation & simulation all the way to optimization and quality assurance.
- Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
Bachelor's degree in Digital Art, Game Art & Design, or a related field, and three (3) years of experience in professional game development, virtual reality development Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Evidence of a deep understanding of Unity.
- Evidence understanding of Houdini and Maya.
- Experience developing for Virtual Reality.
- Evidence of familiarity with Windows operating systems
- Demonstrated general knowledge of Unreal, Photoshop, Blender, Illustrator, CAD, and Nuke/After Effects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of aspect dynamics, animation rigging/set-up, and 3D character animation.
- Experience with version control software such as Perforce, Plastic, SVN, Git, Bit Bucket.
- Experience with coding or integrating software in game engines, with visual scripting tools, or web development with HTML, CSS, C#.
- Experience with Project Management Tools such as Jira, Shotgun, Trello, etc.
- Evidence of ability to prioritize and manage multiple milestones and projects efficiently.
- Experience building educational content.
- Evidence of ability to work effectively in a collaborative, creative environment.
- Evidence of communication and active listening skills.
- Skilled in adapting to changing creative direction.

Working Environment
This positions work location is Tempe Campus.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
