Job Summary:

About the Role & Team

As Senior Specialist of Communications for Disney Publishing, you will be responsible for supporting the communications strategy for Disney’s Publishing business across publishing licensing, The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) franchises, author programs, and imprints. Franchises include Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, ESPN, 20th Century Studios and National Geographic. Author programs and imprints include our full list of titles across fiction and non-fiction for adults and kids.

In this role, you’ll help develop and implement all publicity initiatives for our list (adult fiction and non-fiction, children’s picture books through Young Adult, gift books, and franchise-related properties). This role will focus on media relations for all priority initiatives, including franchise-first campaigns with publishing integrations, publicity programs, and Public Relations campaigns. As part of the broader Disney Consumer Products communications team, you will work closely with all segment, business, and franchise communications leads. You'll need a strategic mindset, a passion for collaboration, and excellent project management skills. This role exists within the Disney Consumer Products Communications team and can adjust to serve the business as needed.

This is a Project Hire/Internal Assignment with an anticipated project length of 12 months.

What You Will Do

In this role, you will:

  • Craft and implement press materials for priority titles and PR campaigns including meeting with media outlets and coordinating interviews
  • Plan and implement author tours, signings, and events such as conferences, book festivals, and regional trade shows
  • Book local and national media in all outlets (print, online, radio, TV)
  • Work closely with bloggers to build tours and create further PR buzz for talent
  • Be responsible for the management of title-related publicity budgets
  • Represent publicity at editorial/acquisitions/sales/marketing meetings
  • Travel to select author events, festivals, and conferences as needed
  • Collaborate with marketing, editorial, sales, authors, and agents to develop and complete plans and meet goals
  • Coordinate global publicity campaigns

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 4+ years’ of publishing experience
  • Attention to detail, organization skills, and the ability to balance multiple projects at once
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong relationships with media contacts
  • The ability to articulate messages clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Think strategically and implement communications with purpose
  • Ability to travel domestically

Education

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or equivalent work experience, preferably with an emphasis in public relations.

The hiring range for this position in New York is $94,800.00 to $130,300.00 per year and in California is $92,800 to $124,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
