Job Description

The Role

We are hiring a Head of Business Affairs to own day-to-day dealmaking across our production slate and licensing pipeline, with additional support on select corporate matters. You will be the company’s primary contract architect for writer agreements, option/purchase deals, talent and producer agreements, distribution and licensing deals, and ancillary revenue contracts. You will partner closely with our development, production, finance, and outside counsel teams, and report to the President.

This role is hands-on and built to grow… You will help shape the templates and playbooks the company runs on. The right person is a sophisticated entertainment dealmaker who can balance creative ambition with commercial discipline, and who is genuinely excited by the messiness and upside of building inside a startup.

What You’ll Do

Production Deals — 60%

  • Negotiate, draft, and close writer agreements, option/purchase agreements, and rights acquisitions across digital, film and television
  • Structure and negotiate talent and key creative deals including director, producer, showrunner, actor, and senior crew agreements at development, production, and post stages
  • Oversee chain-of-title, clearances, E&O, and deliverables for active projects and the development slate
  • Handle production legal across location, vendor, music (sync, master, composer), and ancillary rights agreements
  • Manage outside counsel on production matters and serve as the primary day-to-day contact for talent representatives, agencies, and management
  • Work cross-functionally with development and physical production to flag risk, structure incentives, and keep projects on track to greenlight

Licensing & Revenue Contracts — 30%

  • Negotiate domestic and international distribution and licensing agreements across theatrical, SVOD, AVOD, FAST, broadcast, and home entertainment windows
  • Lead consumer products, merchandising, publishing, location-based entertainment, and other ancillary rights deals
  • Partner with sales, finance, and accounting on revenue recognition, royalty terms, participations, and waterfall mechanics
  • Help build out scalable templates and processes as the licensing and consumer business grows

Corporate — 10%

  • Support corporate transactions including company-level financings, strategic partnerships, vendor agreements, NDAs, diligence matters and equity-adjacent matters
  • Partner with HR and leadership on employment, classification, and routine workforce matters, escalating complex issues to outside employment counsel as needed
  • Assist with IP portfolio management, governance, entity maintenance, and compliance
  • Contribute to internal processes and approval workflows used across the organization

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of business affairs or entertainment transactional experience at a studio, streamer, network, production company, or top entertainment practice.
  • Deep track record closing writer deals, option/purchase agreements, and above- and below-the-line talent deals for film and television
  • Working fluency in WGA, SAG-AFTRA, DGA, and IATSE collective bargaining agreements and current market terms
  • Experience negotiating distribution, licensing, and revenue-generating contracts across multiple windows and territories
  • Startup or scale-up DNA — comfortable building from a blank page, wearing multiple hats, and operating without heavy infrastructure or playbooks
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills; calm and organized under deadline, comfortable carrying a high-volume docket with limited oversight
  • Strong commercial instincts and sound judgment; able to translate between creative, legal, and finance stakeholders
