Head of Virtual and Live Production
The Nexxt Stage
Hybrid | Greater Los Angeles Area
About The Nexxt Stage
The Nexxt Stage is building the future of immersive live entertainment.
The company is developing a new platform for live experiences that brings together digital craft, live performance, physical production, and storytelling. Working with artists, estates, and creative partners, The Nexxt Stage is focused on creating next-generation entertainment experiences that deepen how audiences connect with music, culture, and the artists they love.
This is an opportunity to join The Nexxt Stage at a foundational moment as the company builds the production model, technical infrastructure, and operating discipline required to bring ambitious immersive experiences to life.
The Opportunity
The Nexxt Stage is seeking a Head of Virtual and Live Production to serve as the senior production leader responsible for bridging digital, virtual, physical, and live production workflows.
Reporting to the Chief Production Officer, this role will oversee the technical and operational architecture that brings virtual and physical production together, ensuring that creative intent, technical excellence, production discipline, and business outcomes are aligned at scale.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience leading complex productions that sit at the intersection of live entertainment, virtual production, real-time engines, LED volume environments, in-camera VFX, broadcast and live production systems, and technically sophisticated creative execution.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who can build structure around innovation, lead high-performing teams, manage advanced production technologies and vendors, and help establish a scalable model for multiple concurrent world-class projects.
How The Nexxt Stage Works
The Nexxt Stage is building a world-class team around deep craft excellence, strong judgment in ambiguity, respect for the interplay between art and technology, and a collaborative approach that elevates the room.
The company’s culture is grounded in ownership, clarity, experimentation, and disciplined execution. Innovation is not treated as extracurricular. It is central to the work. The people who thrive here are energized by building what has not yet been built, moving quickly, surfacing problems early, and turning constraints into creative and technical breakthroughs.
The Nexxt Stage values people who think like owners, balance creative ambition with financial discipline, communicate directly and respectfully, and take responsibility for outcomes, not only tasks.
The Work Ahead
- Lead the integration of virtual production and live production workflows across The Nexxt Stage’s production slate.
- Oversee the convergence of real-time engine workflows, including Unreal Engine, with traditional broadcast and live production systems.
- Direct the integration of Unreal/DMX architecture, portable VCam systems, LED volume environments, and related virtual production technologies into live-production settings.
- Serve as a senior technical authority on LED volume photography, in-camera VFX methodologies, HDR capture and delivery, and advanced color pipelines.
- Own the technical integrity of virtual and hybrid production environments, including stable framerates, visual fidelity, system reliability, and production readiness.
- Build and lead a unified virtual and live production organization capable of supporting current and future projects.
- Partner closely with the Chief Production Officer, CEO, creative leadership, development, technical teams, vendors, and external partners to translate creative and business objectives into executable production plans.
- Manage production budgets, schedules, vendors, technology systems integrators, and operational standards in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Develop scalable production systems, workflows, documentation, asset-management protocols, and reporting rhythms that support visibility, accountability, and repeatability.
- Implement clear performance expectations, KPIs, production post-mortems, and continuous improvement practices across the team.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical, operational, schedule, budget, vendor, and pipeline risks.
- Create a culture of mentorship, technical excellence, accountability, and ongoing learning as production technologies continue to evolve.
Experience That Matters
- Extensive senior production leadership experience within a major studio, network, entertainment company, immersive entertainment environment, or similarly complex production setting.
- Deep expertise in virtual production workflows, including ICVFX, LED volume stages, nDisplay configurations, and tracking ecosystems such as OptiTrack, Vicon, or similar technologies.
- Expert-level understanding of Unreal Engine architecture, including Blueprints, Lumen, Nanite, DMX integration, and real-time production workflows.
- Strong command of live production, broadcast production, hybrid production, and the operational realities of technically complex production environments.
- Experience leading production teams, vendors, technology partners, and cross-functional collaborators through high-stakes production cycles.
- Strong budgeting, scheduling, vendor-management, and production-planning discipline.
- Ability to balance creative ambition with technical feasibility, cost efficiency, schedule discipline, and operational accountability.
- Experience building production systems and teams, not only operating within established production environments.
- Comfort working in an innovative, evolving, company-building environment where processes, standards, and operating models are still being developed.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide executive leadership with clear visibility into production progress, risk, spend, and decision points.
- High judgment, calm under pressure, and the ability to make practical decisions in complex, ambiguous, and fast-moving environments.
Experience That Would Stand Out
- Experience scaling production organizations across multiple concurrent high-quality projects.
- Experience with immersive residencies, next-generation live entertainment, non-traditional entertainment formats, artist-led experiences, or technology-enabled performance environments.
- Experience with AI-integrated production workflows or emerging digital production technologies.
- Experience developing production infrastructure, technical standards, asset and versioning protocols, and repeatable workflows across internal and external teams.
The Leader We’re Looking For
- This role may be a strong fit for someone who has helped lead technically ambitious productions and is ready to help build something new from the ground up.
- The Nexxt Stage is looking for a production leader who can bring rigor without slowing down creativity, who understands both the creative promise and operational risk of virtual and live production, and who can help create a scalable model for delivering immersive experiences at a world-class level.
- This is not simply a live production leadership role, and it is not simply a virtual production technology role. It sits at the center of both.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected base salary range for this role is $230,000 to $250,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, scope of responsibility, and overall alignment with The Nexxt Stage’s needs.
In addition to base salary, this role is expected to participate in a broader compensation structure that may include bonus opportunity, equity participation, and other long-term upside opportunities, subject to plan design and company approval.
The Nexxt Stage offers medical, dental, and vision benefits.
